I have the external thingymabob set up to create an rss feed out of the forum topics. However I cant get it to display part of the actual post aswell. I know this can be done because this forum has it! Anyone in the know? Thanks!
I was hoping for an easier way, like a plugin or something. I found quite a good little php to rss tutorial here the other day actually, might give that a go.
Where might you go to get your external thingymabob turned on? I can't even get that far... I was looking for it in the admin cp but couldn't find anything =[
go to the CP > vBulletin Options > External Data Provider - make sure its enabled. Go to Maintenance - Repair / Optimize Tables - [Check All] - Continue then do this.. http://www.domain.com/forum/external.php?type=xml&forumids=1,2,3,4,5 1,2,3,4,5 = forum catagory id you want to view in the xml
The feed does not display too many threads, anyway to increase the number of threads that are in the feed??
What about this? Go to your ACP > vBulletin Options > Content Syndication (Javascript, RSS, XML) There you can set the limit of threads shown in the RSS feed. You can also use a timelimit for how old a thread can be to still be displayed in the RSS Feed. However to use this function you need to add &lastpost=1 to the RSS Feed url StarBuG
I am just trying to grab the RSS feed from a vBulletin site, I do not own the site/forum. Is there another QueryString I can add to the url to get more items? external.php?type=rss&forumids=6&... Or is there documentation on this somewhere?
The forum would need to have feeds turned on. If the basic feed url is not working, then they likely have it disabled. http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/
