Some sites promise that for a payment they will optimise our website so that we could get higher ranking in most of search engines, including google. Has anybody any experience of this, and if so whether it was fruitful? Do you recommend this and whether this is not against google terms of reference.
You really need to get them to specify what a higher ranking means, a higher ranking for payday loans or mortgage application means something where as a higher ranking for xjchgjfhgjdfhjgfjjgkfdf doesn't mean much at all. (Unless xjchgjfhgjdfhjgfjjgkfdf turns out to be some type of cure for fat people, in which case you are golden.) You are probably best of learning a bit more about SEO (some great free SEO books out there) before paying for SEO services. That way you know what to expect and what to look out for when being ripped off. If they can get higher rankings for something you want to rank for, then it's really up to you to decide how much that's worth. Just make sure you are aware of any monthly fees and what not, not everything is permnament in SEO.
Thanks for your reply. I may also add here that they perhaps need keywords also to be specified for which we need higher ranking. This way, we can get higher ranking with reference to the subject of our website. Secondly, if at all we get higher ranked and are able to get traffic to our website by this way, can it be treated as against google terms. In my opinion, it should not. What is your opinion.
there's no guarantee that you'll be successful on such paid services. Then you should do site analysis and look for good keywords for your site. That's what SEO is all about...and it's NOT against the guidelines.
Yep that is spot on, you need to tell the SEO's what keywords you want to rank for. (In reality, a good SEO should be able to find heaps more keywords which are useful for your site also.) It's not against the google TOS to optimize for relevant traffic, that's what they want. What they don't want you to do is rank for spam/irrelevant content. So keep the quality of the content up and you will be sweet.
be careful, if its a good SEO firm they should hv the ability to optimize any keyword. But i advice you should learn it on your own and do it on your own and you will be successful. It may take time but its all worth the time
