Mr G is not the KingMaker and never will be I keep referring to the fact which is so blatantly obvious, Directories or any other site for that matter or not made for the benefit or otherwise of Mr G or any other biased outfit that wants to dictate and rule the world

Websites are built for the Internet community and if Gii ----------------which is so obviously TOP QUALITY ----- or any other site that wants to develop their site in their own way that is ---------------- EMINENTLY COMMENDABLE -------- and is SUPERB MARKETING -------------- THE DIRECTORY MARKET ALONE WILL DECIDE WHICH DIRECTORIES ARE QUALITY :)

    Not 3rd Parties

    Erm Gnet

I think you've completely, and totally misunderstood the current directory landscape dynamics

Furthermore, I thought everyone here understood fairly well, either technically or instinctively, why what has happened has happened.

    Yahoo Directory:
It would be better for everyone if you never ever look at Yahoo directory as an example of any sort
Yahoo directory is a titan, a division of the company that holds most of the search market that is not held by Google.

Talking about why google has not penalised Yahoo directory is not a meaningful act. Billion dollar companies do not lightly "dis" each other, and Yahoo execs don't have emergency meeetings to discuss their "Google pagerank"

Googles grouse with webmasters right now is the perversion of SERPs caused by the selling of links

A number of sites appear to have been penalised for this, by Google

Content is not an issue here, links sold on a high content site are just as damaging as links sold on a content less site.

There is a lot more , an the situation is remarkably complex,

But, the main driver is Googles need to maintain

    Pristine , valid, relevant SERPs

To this end, free & paid directory reviews, properly executed, and valuable to Google, yahoo, msn, and ,, oh look, 1 or 2 human visitors

I disagree, content is infact an issue, if you are selling 80-90% of your site's content (links,pages,articles..etc) and the site itself has no uniqueness or relevancy to its niche then that site will get suffer more damage then a site with more content and 20-40% sold portions.

There has to be a balance between content the site holds itself and the parts sold to the public or its advertiser, this is a reason why google started penalizing directories because paid listings were starting to become more spammy and irrelevant to balance this out there should be a good amount of content for the site as well.

When did i say that yahoo prioritizes google pr or google authority?
I think you've misunderstood the whole topic here, im taking solld facts that are obvious on yahoo dir and simply compared them to other directories.

    Penalised by G - Yes

I hope you get the idea...

Hmm yep pretty much right but you missed one part

    Unique Content - Yes
    Relevant - Not quite :

I think alot of people know that john chow sells reviews on his blogs thats like selling content , atleast 40% of his site is made up of ads/link sales/affiliate ads and paid blogposts (reviews - reviewme.com - payperpost.com). So the unique content on there is very very questionable, and the percentage of his blog that is sold to advertisers (paid links specially) is larger then the content he blogs.

So yea he had it coming for a while now.

Yahoo, could have a directory like Stpt.com, and Google would do nothing

Comparing your directory or any directory marketed here to yahoo, is like comparing

Your local Burger bar to Macdonalds and wondering why no one will sell you burgers for a few cents like they sell to Macdonalds

    Billion dollar company compared to

Loss making bedroom based, 1 man, non-incorporated hobby site

Hmm yea that is a valid point, but i do believe that the differences in dirs owned by big names and regular dirs is just content, and that pretty much is the only reason given while banning sites or de-ranking them at google.

Ofcourse yahoo dir is marketed 20 times better but if we can't spend that much money the least we can do is cover all the holes already defined by google as a penalty factor.

Hmm you are going way off topic here, i am not talking about running a business here, the only issue i am adressing here is factors of indexation at google, john chow is still making loads of money and no one can stop that, the only topic im discussing here is google's indexation factor.

    Please stay on topic.

Ha ha a few of your points are just :D :D

Irrelevant content??? Lets see how much relevant your concept may be!
Having gadget reviews is irrelevant and outdated?

So you mean each directory has to be only having latest news???

    Splog - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spam_blog -
    Good point..

The purpose of a directory is basically providing the most relevant and up-to-date result for a category its in.
Relevance and the freshness of the content matters greatly, if you think my points are just ":D :D" , then simply ignore them hehe :p

I am not here to judge as a "3rd party" the only thing im saying here is that relevance and content is a big factor in indexation and authority for a directory. :)

thats why myself and a few others laughed at those that we where trying
to say that "news feeds" in categories where placed their just to manipulate..

"News" is very important when it comes to "freshness and relevance"

    thx

Hehe, i guess malcolm got my point here..
Not only does it increase indexation but it also gets you great traffic from serps if you get that news in fast enough, and just icing on this cake would be trackbacks to bigger blogs/sites so that you get a piece of their traffic as well :D

Well Well i didnt ask you to review gii and its content, my visitors are extremely happy with the resource we offer and they keep requesting for more via the contact form.
We have x,xx,xxx+ uniques/month and its because visitors keep retuning to our website regularly for updates.

You can mind your own business and take care of your own websites which has irrelevant information.

Also you are bidding with your own website on your bidding directory - http://www.biddingweblinks.com/ which is a very good idea to scam other bidders.

BTW from your own site :

Forgot to mention that http://www.kixxr.com/ is a MFA or a quality website like yahoo.com?

Lets see what other members have to say about this yahoo directory comparision guys =))

Gnet, I didn't mean to devalue your article. Sorry if sounded like it.

As the matter of fact we all agree on everything, just discussing little different topics: what is right and what is true.

I strongly believe there will be always some room for quality, but with more and more players in same game, quality today is crap tomorrow.

    There is no shortcuts.

That is really a very nice reply Amit Patel :)
Returning visitors is really the key to success to any site, when the users love the content, why to even care for reviews ;)

    haha, touchy touchy aren't we?

What you do with gii.in is non of my concern, the thread was aimed at indexation factors and relevancy, and i was infact asked which other directories were the same so it came up.

Biddingweblinks - no other bidders involved all i use it for is spread pr on my own sites, did you see me selling links on it to anyone? Think before you accuse someone of something.

Kixxr - Yep a MFA, how'd you know? lol did my ads give it away? darn it!

And as for my own blog technology/internet/web i think im being pretty relevant for my own good, and my kw position is good enough to explain that.

And as for this comment at my blog

Hmm whats all the hate for?
    Concept? what concept?
its just a lil ol' post on indexation factors :p
    Review? no reviews here bud
All i did was explain the differnce between two directories in that review and the fact that the percentage of ads on a site effects is integrity. :)

To clear up something here, i did not review anybody, everyone here gave their opinion on the matter and i welcomed it and dropped in my 2c on that situation, what amit did up there is just flamming without cause.

And to review this thread, and what i was talking about :

    -Indexation Factors
    -Relevancy and Authortiy
-Directories and important of niche relevance.

Keep your 2c and thoughts with you.. You can't just drop down someone's hard work in a single word - SPLOG

Calling something good a splog? Then what would you have to say about your own huge blog networks??? Big bucket of Splogs!!!
