So the content they had was illegal . This is the main reason, bcuz hosting company will have problems with the law 2.
It was basically a torrent site. Torrent sites provides with old to latest stuff. Stuff like mp3s, movies, games, applications, OS etc etc ... mostly illegal. Still there is another site like that which required invitation .. that's funfiles.com
Is it shut down for good? this was truly the best torrent site ever. If I got to a public site like the pirate bay, i have to put up with fake torrents and crap. The invite system is surprisingly effective to tackle this problem.
i think people need to understand that the site does not contain any content for download, it just provides you with tracker info to get the stuff from other peoples pc's. it really has no files for download it's self. and that is why the pirate bay can not be closed down, because the law in Sweden states you have to offer the content for download, and a tracker is not content, thats all they offer for download. once you have the tracker, you can download the shit from people that have it.
From #demonoid on IRC. Quote: Site is down, tracker is up. Expect the site to return, unless we hear otherwise from Deimos.
they already moved from Netherlands hiding from BREIN (Netherlands RIAA) now they are in Canada and got problems with CRIA (Canadas RIAA), they wont shut down they will just move their servers, probably to Sweden that is where PirateBay is.
thePirateBay has had it's servers raided and taken by the cops in sweden in the past, but not because of breaking any copyright laws, it was because they dont seem to want to pay all the Taxes on the profits they make from the ads.
i was just gonna post on the thread where you can get invites.. til i saw this thread.. tsk tsk tsk...
