Purchase Domain Name - Tips?

    Any tips for purchasing a domain name? For example how to check domain popularity reliably? Some unused or expired domains maybe banned by some search engines, how to confirm this?

    Any thoughts? :)

    I've seen dozens of PR7 domains turn automatically to PR0 after they expire, so don't bid on an expired domain just because of pagerank.
    As to the name, carefully analyse it, and ask opinions of your close friends, if the domain is good or not, if it's memorable, brandable, ...
    Some don't like numbers, others don't like hyphens, I guess it depends on the person...
