    Hi to all,
    The other day I've checked my expenses for starting and running my directory for the first 6 months. I was quite shocked, and I suppose you'll be too if you add yours up. (I'm talking about your first directory or first site for that matter, before you knew anything about internet businesses)

    Here is my list of expenses:

    domain registration: $6
    hosting for 6 months: $42
    directory script + installation: $90
    advertising: $250 (this includes articles, press releases, directory submisions ect.)
    Ebooks: $180
    Customized logos and banners: $85
    Internet connection: $213
    My time: ??????????????????????????
    Total= $866

    If I knew then what I know now I could've saved over $500!!!!
    Scary isn't it??

    domain registration: $6 - OK
    hosting for 6 months: $42 - OK
    directory script + installation: $90 - OK
    advertising: $250 (this includes articles, press releases, directory submisions ect.) - OK
    Ebooks: $180 - What kind of EBooks?
    Customized logos and banners: $85 - OK
    Internet connection: $213 - Should not be included, as you are not taking connection only for your directory!
    My time: ?????????????????????????? - Doing something that is beneficial, then you have to spend time!
    Total= $866 - Should be lesser

    Please dont tell me that you paid out $180 on ebooks that are of the get rick quick type, the ones with secret methods, written by an expert and how to make $50,000 in 4 weeks?

    If it was books on HTML, CSS, PHP, SEO then that would make more sense, saying that even, you can find the same amount of info on forums.

    You could save some money installing the script yourself, just takes time and patience.

    Internet connection shouldn't be included in the price.

    You could of saved some of your cash spent, quite a bit actually.

    I spent about $12000 for one directory(in 3 months). It always depends how you promote and what features you put in your directory. Setting up is easy; even for $10, you can get the free version and get a hosting and domain for a start.
