Questions about BANS

I am going to purchase BANS within the next couple days.

Does it only use one database, regardless of how many websites you have?

    And one more question…
I found a niche for individuals that are looking to sell products. Do you think that using BANS on this type of website would benefit it? Your thoughts.

BANS uses one database for each website. Depending on which market you want to target your website must be set to use either US, UK, CA or AU ebay so you must join that affiliate program for each different country via CJ.

If the products you mentioned are for sale on ebay then yes you could use BANS with the store function listing the products via the RSS feed from ebay. You can also (and should for SEO) add as many content pages you wish and put whatever you want on them.

the thing to remember as always, you need traffic to make it work, if your products are competitive then you will have have to SEO like crazy or buy expensive PPC.

    good luck

    I just purchased BANS.

I don't know if the BANS website/forum's server is extremely slow, but I can barely access anything.

I need severe help. I downloaded the zip file. No problem there. I opened the pdf document and read it. No problem there. But in the book it says there should be 4 files. I have 1,455 files. Is there something that I'm missing?

The book doesn't say 4 files, it says 4 folders US, Uk, CA or AU and in each of these folders is the set of folders and files you need for a BANS site targetting that country.

Have you unzipped the lot into one folder somewhere?

    Yes you're correct...4 folders.

But the 4 folders do not exist.

I know what I am doing. I zip and unzip stuff all the time...

I am going to see if I can access the site and download it again.

I'm not able to access the website...."Could not connect to remote server"

    e10...

Could I email the zip file to you that I received. Then you could see what I'm talking about. And if you still have your copy of the zip file, could I get that one?

    Thanks

It uses one database per website. So for every single store you want to run you need to have yet another copy of the 2MB categories table. :-( I have been working on modifying my copy of BANS to run off of one database but the PHP code is so convoluted and poorly structured that it is turning into a much larger project than it should be :-( At this point I'm ready to throw in the towel and use it as is and just write my own code from scratch eventually because its just not worth the effort to try and modify it.

so what if it uses 2mb per database? if you are with a decent hosting co (ie hostgator) you can have as many as you want!! seems to me you are making yourself a problem which does not exist

Exactly. I have 6 BANS sites running now and they have such a small footprint compared to my other database driven sites (one has a 2GB database) that it's pretty much a non-issue.

I am only allowed 10 databases with my server. I didn't want to be confined to only 10 websites with BANS. I guess I only have two options; share database with different websites or get a new hosting company.

i am with hostgator, they allow unlimited hosting and currently have 9 sites hosted for 9.90 per month, they do seem pretty good.

Ugh, I hate hosts that arbitrarily limit databases. There's no reason why they need to limit you to 10 databases. Go to hostgator or dreamhost and get an account for $10 a month that doesn't limit you. I betcha you're limited in other ways as well. Both of these hosts have very liberal accounts for the money.

I hate to see people squirm over this type of stuff. Now I see why I was happy to get the alternate script.
