    I have major hosting problems.

I use Hostgator since I started my online ventures.
I started with shared, semi-dedicated and dedicated.

I have now a wordpress blog that it's hosted alone on a dedicated server.
I need to restart the server every now and then during rush hours.
But today the sql service collapses every 10 minutes, and my traffic is normal, as it was one week or one month ago.
I am restarting the server but it reacts the same.
The hostgator support did not help me to much, they just say you have to much traffic.
But I had this same traffic one week ago or it worked fine.

I think that it might be the time for me to change my hosting co?
    What do you think?

Are there some wau to optimize a wordpress besides the wp-cache plug-in?
I tried it with this plugin and still no positive result.

Can you refer me some decent priced hosting companies that you already use and you have experienced a positive colaboration?

I would need advices especially from wordpress users !

    Thank you in advance!

    Ace.

I will suggest you to go with webhosting.UK.com they are very polite and are available 24x7 through live chat support, i am quite satisfied with their service :)

Regarding your sql service problem :
Try to increase the number of max_user_connections in /etc/my.cnf but keep the number reasonable otherwise Mysql server will overload your server.

well you need caching. keep in mind that enabling caching will increase usage for awhile at least until most of your pages are cached then it should start to taper of.

next thing to do is to see if mysql has caching enabled you need to look in your my.cnf config file.

the crashing will no dough be from high load on the server, the problem with people is they are completely random. so just because you received the same amount of traffic a few days ago doesn't mean the server can cope with the same but different traffic today.

    Thanks for the advices guys.
The idea is that I already use wp-cache.
Today was the worst day ever.
My server stats where blinking to warning levels for both CPU and RAM.
I had to restart the mysql service every half an hour.
And the traffic was not that huge, as said in the first post. It was a normal day traffic.

Pls post further trustable hosting companies and also other advices if you have for improving my wordpress blog.

    Thanks.

    1. You need mysql server optimization.
    2. Use a php cacher.
    3. Switch to a low resource hogging web server, eg - lighttpd

Many more ways...BTW, what server specs and control panel?
You can contact me by IM if you like.

Probably disk issues or not enough RAM. Reason is that you seem to have issues with mysql, but not the other services. However it is hard to tell without more info such as server specs, top processes, load etc.

    Post the top stats?

Use caching, this could solve your problem to a extent. Also, increase the max. no. of mysql connections to higher value. By default, its 300.
