Link exchange - Positive value or thumbs down !!!

I think its true that Google and other engines devalue an inbound link if it's found to be reciprocated right back...As its a rational view point...So obviously the big guys might do a step better ( or its already here or they are thinking/ planning whatever ) ......
.......I mean how does the search engines (especially Google) value link exchange page as we normally see in many formats as 'recommended sites', 'resources', or open invitation to links ( Spam in technical language ....politically whatever anyone say..)..So according to you guys how does they react..
    1. Penalise in some form.
    2. Ignore.
    3. Count the links as another medal..

I think there is still value in low amounts of highly relative link x. Keep it on-topic and make sure the sites you x with are cached etc...this value is much lower than genuine 1 way links, however, they are better than no links at all!

Reciprocal links still work - but are just worth a lot less.

If you do it too much then the SEs may just discount them completely, and if you really over do it (hundreds of reciprocated links) then you may face penalizations.

Be very careful who you link to as linking to crap sites is quite often what causes a penalization - it might not mean being banned - just having lower rankings.

If you do want to go down the reciprocal route then try triangular linking or A->B C->D trades.

My experience: I had a PR5 site, made about 30 relevant links exchanges, using LinkAssistant, and went back to PR4.
I will not exchange links directly (A-B, B-A) anymore.

I don't think triangular linking makes any difference at all, the search engines can easily spot these and it may seem like you are trying to manipulate...i recon stick with simply quality 2 way recips...

Yes, I put them all on one page, called "Friends". Now there are 80+ relevant links, but maybe it's too much. Was it better to make separate pages with 20 links only on each one?

I highly doubt that you get -PR1 via link exchanges.

I would say 80+ link x is probably classed as excessive by the big G. They say that xxamples of link schemes can include:

If the sites you are exchanging links with is related, nothing wrong there!

Reciprocal links still works. The relevant the site you are exchanging link, the better and valued high compare to unrelated site. Google only penalized site that made excessive link exchange.

Link exchange still has the value but excessive link will hurt your site.

I think that link building still works. Just not as well as it used to. A quality incoming 1 way link is much better.

    As previously mentioned
Google frowns on excessive reciprocal exchanges, they don't think too very highly of paid links either.

The best would be to find a balance of one way and reciprocal links.
There is talk that links from .gov, .org or .edu are weighted more???

3 way links, work great if you can get 3 or more people involved.

Hey MOG......See mathamatically speaking, Google is good at easily finding parallel links and becoming just as good at finding equilateral triangle links. Yep! Three way bad! Maybe try quadrangle links? Maybe a better idea... instead of trying to scam the system, why not look at getting some real links as opposed to manufactured ones? Wouldn't that be different?

Where is the best place to put the links partners section which contain links from friend and links caused by link exchanged?. I put this section on the bottom of my home page, but some one from this forum advice me to create a page just for link partner sections in order to raise my PR. Is it right? Please some one explain me!!
