I stumbled upon something and will use my site as an example.

    Last PR update I recieved a PR4.
    If you go to http://directory.google.com/Top/Recreation/Humor/Useless_Pages/Trivia/
my site is listed #4 and the list is based on PR order. If you check the site below me the toolbar shows PR5 and the site above me shows PR6, but if you go to my site the toolbar and data centers show PR4.

Now since the list is by PR rating my site in Googles eyes seems to be either a PR5 or PR6.

This is an awesome find and observation roman1.

I would guess that this is an anomally that was unintentional on Google's part. Else, they're having fun toying with us.

However, at least in this instance it appears to be the best future PR prediction on the market.

We just launched a campaign website for someone running for US Congress in November so way after the last PR update. However, the site has been accepted into DMOZ and is now listed in the Google Directory and showing PR5.

    Great going roman1.

It's not a tool per se'. It's a sorted list for DMOZ sites it seems.

http://directory.google.com/ list DMOZ listed sites by PR and it seems to be updated PR, not what shows on the tool bar. I used my site as an example because it clearly show and upgrade in PR for my site. The drawback, you have to be DMOZ listed to be in the Google directory.

This "trick" is fairly accurate as the directory PR is updated on a different schedule than the toolbar PR. It just doesn't get much attention since PR is less important in the SERPS than a year or two ago.

Definitions of tool on the Web:

an implement used in the practice of a vocation

If your vocation is SEO you can use it to check current PR so thus it is a tool.

That I don't know, but if it's taking the PR right from Google it might be live.

PR itself is a google standard, they decide it, so its definately authoratative.

what if you are already on the top of the list with a PR6? I guess there is no way to tell if you reached a 7 for example.

Nope, in my case the site below is 5 and the site above is 6 so my site could be one or the other, but I assume it includes fractions of PR so my site should be closer to 6 than the site below me.

I just found a flaw in my theory: It's possible that the sites below me lost PR and will be PR4 while I stay at PR4, although unlikely as there are quite a few PR 5s below me. It is also possible that the site below me and above moved up in PR as well so the site I outrank showing PR5 on the toolbar maybe a PR6 in Googles database.

Well the site I referenced for Mike Weaver was only launched in the last four weeks, so it's a whopping PR0, so for it to show a PR5 in Google Directory is definitely an indicator ;)

Running your humor site through a few future predictors would indicate that a PR5 is in order.
