BTW did you know that if you have programs that are not compatible with Vista installed it can cause sluggish system performance. I was advised of this by Toshiba when they walked me through the upgrade procedure.

I think Vista is a little too showy. I like the functionality of it, but all of the showy stuff makes it run a little slower than I would like.

Well, I'm using xp right now.. so, I'd go for xp!
and by the way you guys talk about vista, I'd rather stick to xp! :D

Very useful information you all provided, now I won't have to switch to vista (for now).

You guys are acting as if Vista is the first system to ask you to upgrade your memory or graphics card. XP did that and so did 98. The only one that did not ask for that was 95 and that is of course due to how the computer booted.

At the moment I must change my PC and I'm facing the problem

Of course you do not have new branded computers with XP in shops in Europe

There are some Dell available online but there are very expensive

The solution is still to get a computer built just for you and ask for XP instead of Vista

Ubantu is only good if you are concerned about security. Software is a multi billion dollar industry. Companies are not fund f the idea of releasing their codes so other people can modify them. (Mambo and Joomla). Maybe in the future it will work but for now Opensource is mainly for web geeks at the moment.

XP kicks the hell outta vista all day fro me. I have my good ole dell P4 with XP, and got a laptop with vista, and I can't stand that damn OS. Too bad a lot of companies are selling new computers with vista only. Vistas too damn sensitive to simple operations, and changes, and incompatible with a lot of software
