Do more keyword analysis and narrow down the keywords to your specific niche rather than targeting highly competitive keywords.

You need to build quality inbound links to your site, bottom line. Google takes time to give a site credibility, even when you get a lot of inbound links. Be prepared for a long slow process. SEO requires patience. (If you want get traffic from Google right away, then purchasing PPC ads through Google Adwords is your best bet.) When you launch a site, you may get to the top of the rankings for a short while while you're in the honeymoon period, but soon your rankings will drop and it will require time to gain a permanent high position.

Improve on your On-Page optimization by putting the keywords in your headers, titles, METAs and content.

Shorten your title but remain the respective keywords.

Thats a very competitive keyword. You can start with a longtail similar keyword first. Also there is noway around at this moment without link building for that keyword to get on top. Google will takes its sweet time to show you on top even if you qualify.

You can top of SERP's for a particular keyword and surpass the others by:

    - Making 10 sites on the same niche concentrating on the same keyword for them all and adding regular backlinks to those and thus killing competition.

    - Reciprocal Submissions with some hight placed ( in SERPs ) websites , related to your content.

    - Permanent listing on Yahoo and Google.

    - Link build with correct anchor text and write good unique keyword rich (but not to rich) content.

I am not really sure that credibility plays a significant role in the site rankings. Here is an example: click the following link to see the search results for the "collection of digital products" keyword phrase. You will see my site in #1 out of 41mil results in the main .com Google datase. My site beats adobe, amazon, a number of high ranked edu sites... but it has PR1 and I am pretty sure that the site's credibility is next to ZERO.

By credibility, I'm simply referring to Google's time/aging factors. Credibility within Google's internal algorithm. For example, if you get an inbound link, you don't get the full value of it for quite some time. Also, when you launch a site, it will take a while for it to rank, even if you have some good linkage. (With a few exceptions, including having EXTRAORDINARILY strong backlinks.) I'm not talking about user credibility.

Try targeting related long tail keywords and get links with those Anchor Texts. The site will slowly creep up the SERPs. Don't expect any magic to happen overnight. Also, make sure you get links to the page which is actually coming in the SERPs (home page or a specific landing page) so that you see positive results soon.

Use your targeted keyword wisely. Include them in the important segments of your web-page and include them in anchor texts.. then gather quality links as much as possible.

My suggestion, get more relevant inbound links to your blog with your targeted keyword as the anchor text. The more the better.
And make sure the keyword appear consistently on each of your web pages.

    Just my 2 cents :p
