PageRank question

I tried searching, but there were just too many results to narrow it down from.

So I ask, what exactly does the pagerank mean? And how does it determine what pagerank a site it?

    Thanks for your help.

I searched through these forums because I thought someone would give an easier explanation than pages and pages of equations.

    From my experience

    Page rank is determined by

    1. No. of back links to your website

    2. Uniqueness of your website content

    3. No. of visits to your website from keywords using google and other search engines.

    PageRank in non-complex terms:
-PageRank is basically a rating Google gives to sites.
-It is out of 10. The best sites get 10/10.
-You can view PageRank using Google toolbar.
-It is determined by the amount of links to your site.
-It influences how often your site gets indexed, and how well your site ranks in the search engine.

    In two words.
If you want PR 5 you should have 1 or 2 links from PR6 page to your site.
OR about 10-20 links from PR 5 page.
OR 100 links from PR 4 page.
OR 1000 links from PR 3 Pages and so on.

    Did you get the idea?

May I know where do you get these info from?

From what I know, PR is determined only by the quality of inbound links.

to make it short and sweet, PR doesn;t really mean anything these days. there was time when PR was important for ranking purposes but now its nothing but just a hype.

for example, you will see PR0 site being on the top where PR4 or more site on the second or 3rd pages and sometimes nowhere to be found.

Its not the PR that helps you in terms of ranking anymore, its the content of your site and quality related backlinks. just keep building quality related backlinks instead of figuring out PR and spend any time on increasing PR of your site.

you will be better off getting a related link from a low PR site than unrelated high PR link

Right, Page Rank is a worthless thing these days.
What I'm really paying attention to is site's rankings.
