Could google ban their competitors to show up on their search results?

I am pretty sure they are getting sick and tired of Facebook rising against them especially now that MySpace is aligning with Google.....so why don't they just block Facebook from the search results completely? They would have money and power to promote their own social networking site.

some might consider banning their competitors an abuse of their (near) monopoly power, which would get them into trouble or a lawsuit at the least..

Google has guidelines for webmasters to follow, and i believe it is Google's policy to ONLY ban websites that do not follow those guidelines..

Yes but those guidelines are written by Google. So you make the rules so that they may fit your agenda, so having the guidelines might not mean anything.
