So you seem to be an Indian so am I...Well if you ask me there is tremendous future of such domains as India is catching up with the internet craze. There will be a time when people will start ordering loads of stuff online instead of actually going to the shop and buying it. Presently people dont trust the internet so much so they avoid buying stuff online. I don't know why but this myth seems to be floating around since a long time Indians feel that internet is full of scams and we might be ripped off we if buy something online. But this kind of attitude is going slowly and gradually and people are becoming more aware about the internet. More and more people in our country have started using the internet lately. I have seen people actually going to cafes just to login to their orkut account. So India is definitely catching up. Now even big companies like Bigbazaar have started setting up E-Commerce sites (future bazaar.com) and Companies like Reliance have got into the internet market with the launch of their sites zapak.com and bigadda.com. So i definitely feel that there is tremendous scope and we marketers should equip ourselves before hand. Moreover Google gives priority to domains regionwise so if you have a .in or co.in domain then you will rank higher when someone from India searches.

So according to me there is tremendous scope in these domains.

Well, In age of global connectivity, to think that .in would be only for marketing to India ... would be wrong assumption. .IN extensions give good, easy to remember name and that is where the potential is for anyone (remember it is not restricted like .us where you have to be a citizen)
Recently tuned.in got sold for 2K Euro - a neat profit for investment of less then 4USD ...
However like everything else, this is unpredictable business, if the craze wanes down, you don't know what next would become hot, and what would be sent to cool down in remote corners.

    Cheers

Poker.in sold for 60k I believe, so there is money involved.

Just got to snap the good ones up :p

only the good ones have value.

.us aren't that valuable compared to .com and .net.

now US is a much bigger internet economy than India.

if .us domains aren't of much value, I don't see why .in domains will command high valuations in the foreseeable future.

Because .us is limited to US only, while .in can be used by any country, and give excellent names, anything terminating with ING :) give someth.in, everyth.in, noth.in to the user who buys it. As mentioned above poker and tuned did give excellent results, more IN's would soon grab attention.

    Keep Look.in

Many Indian companies are using .in, airtel.in, goair.in but most of the portals / high profile internet companies in India use .com

I am hoping that they become popular since I bought over 150 .IN's with WSDREG.

I completely agree with this. I'm very excited about the future of Indian domains. I'm also Indian and I feel Indian domains are the best investment at this moment

The trend is changing for sure. Even hotmail introduced localized e-mails with .in domains. The best investment now is LLL.in. There are not enough quality domains left in .coms, so in future, Indians will likely to register .in domains :)(Even I like shorter .in compared to a .com)

Ya even i am very excited. Ya it is definitely a very good investment but its not the best look at the way our stock market is moving...Man !!! Folks out there are definitely making loads on this bull run. But in terms of returns ya if you get lucky domains can definitely pay you a lot more.

Ya i agree every major website has an Indian portal ebay.in. And the latest is even aol has joined the Indian market with aol.in and they have some aggressive marketing strategies. Right now they have some contest where you can come on TV if you express your views. And in every advert if you must have noticed you see them advertising there website. The main reason for this can be that they are earning much more from the websites these days. India is undoubtedly a huge market.

A friendly advice: Register as many co.in and .in as you can afford and hold them-don't let them expire!

The future of co.in and .in domains looks very bright and promising, just like the Indian economy (a market of more than 1 billion people!).

But if you look at it this way then all the popular domains have already gone...I was checking them the other day and i was surprised all of them were gone mostly and most of them were taken by one company based in India.

The future of .IN and .CO.IN are very bright.
maximum of the .com and .net domains are not available. So .in domains are preferred. This helps a good choice for domain name grabbing and resell with higher value.:)
