Hostgator problems

Never had problems with Hostgator before. But recently, they just shut down my site for no reason. Usually they take care of it really quick but this time, they're saying that it's going to take 24-48 hours to fix the problem or get back to me?

Very slow customer service in my opinion, does anyone have similar problems with them? Besides Hostgator, what other reputable hosting service would you recommend?

    Just put it this way.
    Shit happens.

No one can be perfect and have 100 % uptime.
Support Lines must be getting trampled.

    Just hang on.

I see what you're saying and I understand that no one can have their site up time forever. However, I'm sitting here at close to a day and nothing has been done. Not sure if anyone else has had similar experience...and if so what hosts are best in having minimal downtime?

If this happened just once and you are overall satisfied with their services, i believe there is no reason for changing host.

Like nimonogi said there is no need to change host unless you really don't like their service.

Just system overage use. The issue they are giving doesn't make sense though, I mean I've had the same plan for months and we're at like the 4th of November.

I think it just depends on the problem and the nature of your site. My site happens to be my baby so this is really hurting me in many ways. Hostgator charge at a premium and the only reason I went with them is so I won't face the problem I am facing right now. But I guess, it's not working...

May be let Host gator show what is the problem and then decide whether to change the host or not. Do not take decision quickly

If your site really does go down for 48 hours, ask them for some sort of compensation (maybe a month free? that's fair if you are on their shared hosting plans).

But yes, servers go down. It's a sad reality. With hostgator its usually due to some major hardware upgrades (i.e. new kernals, additional hard drives, etc). I'm currently on hostgator and none of my sites are affected, so it's probably your specific server, which would suggest a hardware failure, and they're probably waiting for some obscure part to get delivered (something like a cpu burning out, doesn't happen often but it will happen and most hosting companies don't keep cpu's for emergencies, but they keep things like ram and hardrives since those problems are very common).

EDIT: As a side note, I have been using hostgator for over 2 years now. The most any of my sites have be down at a single time has been about an hour. I honestly wouldn't drop them if a site went down for a day or two, but I would seek compensation especially if the affected sites are very busy/popular.

Downtime sucks. Besides the loss of traffic, extended periods of downtime can cause you to drop out of the serps. A day or two you should be ok, but what if its longer?

Anyone running PPC campaigns or impressions would be in a world of hurt. I'd mention any non hosting fees you might have to swallow because of this.

    I prefer Bluehost.com.

    Good luck...

Yes, I know that very well and therefore I was freaking out. For Hostgator fans here nope, nothing was given or offered to me for my downtime. I don't really expect it and frankly I'm not there for that anyways. I just want someone who always have great uptime. For now I think I've probably want to look into an alternative.

I was a pretty customer, 4 months no complaints no nothing. Had one error and they just didn't handle it properly in my opinion. By the way customer service chats are now incapable of handling most problems and are directed to tickets. I would like to also mind everyone that "ANY" downgrade will cost you $10. I've upgraded mine so I can keep my sites up and running immediately so they've done that. Okay so that didn't solve the problem and I've decided to downgrade within "2" days and they are sucking $10 out of me for that.

Not very cool at all...charging me $10 because I wasn't happy? I can tell they really don't like helping me nor this thread.

Well assuming uptime is a prime concern for you I would look to spend more and maybe use a host who offers a clustered environment (think hsphere panel). The thing about hsphere is it's no cPanel so obviously not as friendly or has some of the tools cPanel has.

So the alternative is spend a bit more make sure the host has things like raid and other redundancy plans in place. In this case if it was hardware issues IE: motherboard died or something along those lines. Most would attempt to take the drives in the machine and start restoring on a new server. 24-48 hours if it was some part order doesn't seems pretty bad.

This is all assuming its hardware related if it's something like your site got hacked or you were using tons of resources well I don't see why it would take 24-48 hours to resolve.

Honestly I'd really want to know exactly what's going on in fact demand it.

Honestly, I would too. However I am not sure if pushing is the right way to do it. Since I hear a lot of people are getting banned to demand solutions to their problems I really am not sure.

About spending more, I have no problem with that. The problem was really that I've never had problems with them for around four months with the same hosting plans. There is a subtle increase in traffic but it's not like there's a huge spark or anything.

But I do want to state that it was the 4th of November when this problem happened. If it's toward the end of the month I get it, system overage usage and all. But at the 4th just seems a bit shady to me.
