How about the meaning of "submitting to directory" or something like that.. And how do you know the PR of a page?
It's when you submit your site to a directory, with the hope of being accepted and getting a backlink. I use the SearchStatus FF addon.
Backlinks -also known as Inbound Links - incoming links to a website or web page or links that are directed towards your website. Directory submission is one of the many ways of off-page optimization wherein you will submit your site in directories in the the category that best fits on your site
It can, it completely depends on the directory. I have listings in some very good directories, like DMOZ, than send me no traffic whatsoever. Other directories, like the one I think Mia (Jeremy) on this board owns, Kingbloom, send me a good steady low volume stream of traffic. Very low volume, but still very steady. -Michael
The only benefit I see in directory submission is the backlinks it can provide. But as what mvandemar said, its totally depends on the directory itself. Make sure your submitting on the quality diretories only
