Multiple domains and GoDaddy, Did I do OK?

    Hi all,
    I have a question about hosting multiple domains on GoDaddy,
    I am relatively new to web building and hosting so please excuse me if my question hard is to understand or the answer is blatantly obvious..

    When I first signed up with GoDaddy I only wanted one domain name, and thought I could upgrade my hosting account later if I wanted any more. So I
    got the basic hosting account.
    When I set up my website, I placed all my html files in the root directory, made some folders for images etc, and all works well.

    I upgraded my hosting plan to the next one up so I could use some more of the domain names that I had purchased, then I made new folders for each
    new domain name I wanted to use, and put the new domains html files etc into the new folder and pointed the new domain name to the new folder.
    This seems to work fine, and I have had no trouble with doing it this way.

    Now I have been thinking about making a folder for my first domain and shifting all the html files and folders from the root directory and pointing
    my first domain name to that folder... just to tidy things up a bit, and also because I have been wondering weather the bots will see these new domain
    folders as folders that belong to my first or root domain name.

    I went to do it a few months ago but I sorta got a warning message saying something about changing the root dir could take 24 - 48 hours and I may
    loose access to my website.. or something like that, so.. basically I got scared:eek: and I didn't go any further..

    What I would like is some better information or opinions from people more knowledgeable than me (shouldn't be too hard;)) on weather there will be
    any negative or positive effects on my website if I decide to do it!
    Or should I just leave it as is, since it seems to be working fine.

    To sum up my question: is pointing a domain name to the root directory and other domain names to folders within the root directory a good or bad
    idea? Or does it even matter?
    Any help appreciated

    Cheers
    James

    Is Godaddy hosting standard cPanel, or something else?
    ~~~
    I do know for certain you can transfer away the 'main' domain (with standard cPanel) and use a parked domain instead. I've never tried to do exactly what you are asking, but I'm interested in seeing the answers you get from others.
    Good luck with your sites :)
    GoDaddy is the only host I have used so I could not tell you if there cPanel is standard or not.. Someone will know!
    When you said
    ..That just reminded me that... when I did a "fake PR check" on a expired domain name I got. the result came back as "unconfirmed" because the fake PR checker thought that the domain was re directed from my first site! Thats when I started to think about search engine bots, and how they interpret my setup.:confused:
    Thanks
    It doesn't matter at all....... unless you purposely want to see all your domains in different folders. Here you can distinguish folders under main site and other folders for domains clearly..... Just my view. I have main domain in root and others in folders.. I know which belongs to what and it doesn't make any diff to me.
    It would seem a bit less cluttered if each domain was in its own folder but it doesn't really worry me...
    So as long as having it this way does not upset the bots, or the root domain does not pass on PR (my root domain is PR0) or restrict PR or anything like that, then I will leave it as is..
    I just tried to reproduce the response I got from the "fake PR checker" but I could not get the "could not confirm" response from any of the ones I just tried. and I have forgotten which one I used when I first got that response :eek:
    Godaddy is not a cPanel control panel. The cPanel control panels work the same way for addon domains. The primary domain has all its files in the html root and the addons are directories.
    I think you need to leave it the way it is. Or if there is a way to do what you want I have not figured it out yet.
