What is Social Media optamization?

Hi, I want to know about social media optamization?

 

Don't confuse the concept of SEO(search engine optimization) with SMM (Social Media Marketing). The latter is basically building your pages toward the benefit of driving traffic based on free submissions and approval from visitors.

 

Social media optimization (SMO) is a set of methods for generating publicity through social media, online communities and community websites..like digg, facebook, stumble upon etc...it combines seo strategies and traffic generation through social media and networking sites...

 

SMO is optimization of your site social media sites such as youtube, digg.

 

Social media optimization is a way to generate traffic towards ur site by using social networking sites.

 

I think we have to keep user in mind instead of SE when it comes to social media optimization.

 

Social Media: Social media describes the online technologies and practices that people use to share content, opinions, insights, experiences, perspectives, and media themselves. They are works of user generated video, audio, text or multimedia that are published and shared in a social environment such as a blog, wiki, or a video hosting website. These social media websites do not allow user interaction with the world the way social networking sites do. The social media sites let us interact with the world by only giving web space to us within their website for sharing comments, views or new feature requests. Some of the social media websites are My Space, Squidoo, Digg, Mashable, You tube, Flickr, Wikipedia and Miniclip.

 

These site are social bookmarking/networking and not SMO as what I know but adding the buttons of this site on your site, may now consider it as SMO

These are also social networking or book marking sites? Can you tell me deferences between Social networking and Bookmarking and also Social Media?

Just like SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and SEM (Search Engine Marketing) are different, SMO is also different. I would consider SMO as a part of SEM, rather than a part of SEO.
