I found this a little confusing... So I have this site that is taking a very long time being indexed by Google despite several visit from the bots. Anyways, when I type in site:example.com, to see which pages are indexed by Google, I get fewer results for my site than if I typed in site:www.example.com. For the pages that aren't in the site:example.com search, I type in keyword phrase that I KNOW I should rank for. The other pages of my site come up, but not the one that should easily be there. Are the pages in the site:www.example.com not fully indexed or what is actually going on with that?
google sees www.domain.com and domain.com as two different sites. You should use htacess to send google to one or the other.
If you set your prefferd domain with www in google web master tool, then results are almost the same...
Yes, I will do that... however, I'm wondering why the pages from the site:domain.com rank and the ones in the site:www.domain.com don't when they should just as well. For extra information, I did also give google my preferred domain which is the www.domain.com
Why should they do just as well? they are different pages on different sites presumably with a different amount of links pointing to them.
right now, whatever i happening with the number of indexed pages on the www or non-www pages, any backlinks from one version are probably creditied to the version google considers the main one- so this observation probably doesn't matter
The links count towards whatever page they point to. A link to domain.com/page.php wont count towards www.domain.com/page.php unless a 301 redirect is being used
Every page that is in the site:www.domain.com is in the site:domain.com. search command. It's just there are other pages that don't rank for anything. It doesn't matter how specific I search for them, they can't be found in the serps. This is very irregular, since usually I rank in the top several pages for most all of my main key phrases. Oh, and by the way, as I have a new site, I don't have any visible PR. Also, this is a very new site, and every link that I know of points to http://www.domain.com. As I said before, in my webmaster central account have www.domain.com as the preferred site. So to recap, I'm just wondering why the a couple pages that don't appear in the site:domain.com but DO appear in the site:www.domain.com command (along with the rest of the site) don't show up in the serps at all. I can confidently say that it's nothing to do with PR or anything to do with links. With the terms I'm after I rank these pages well without any links pointing at them.
