Welcome to the forum. I have read your notes and give u few suggestions to catch some traffic. First, you have to submit your site to free directories under the appropriate category. Second, Buy some links to quality-maintained link directories. Third, Try to rent some ad space of your site (like as, banner ad, thumbnail ad, text link ad). Yes both comments above are essentially correct although one thing failed to be mentioned is that I would start your seo on your on page content. optimize your pages then research your sites keywords. Keywords are very important if you want to show up in search engines. You also need to know who you want to find you.

I'm pretty new to this but I was wondering if submitting to a new or poorly ranked directory could actually hurt your own page ranking? Thanks in advance for any responses.
Through submissions to free quality directories,buying signature spots,adding to quality bidding directories,Advertise on Google adwords,Promote it through various forums are good ways to promote a newly build website IMO.
start decent directory submission + quality link ex + buy link + advt banners + Advt text links + buy featured links...>> be in constant touch of DP for all these >> surly get promoted spend some money :: pay and get....benefit
nah not unless it is in a bad neighborhood, so just make sure that you dont submit to grey bared sites, atleast white bar pr0. they wont hurt they just wont really help that much for ranking but they still help for links
