There are a number of body parts mentioned here that I don't find very appetizing. But my favorite bizarre food that I have never tried is balut. It's a fertilized duck egg that is just about ready to hatch when it is cooked. I remembering being in Manila at some missionary friends home and hearing a street vendor crying out "balut!" at about 10 at night and I was told that it is an evening snack. Too bad I didn't try it.
Balut Egg from PH... A Balut is a fertilized duck (or chicken) egg with a nearly-developed embryo inside that is boiled alive and eaten in the shell.
Cow's brain with eggs (hen eggs). Cow's stomach in a souce - it even has one strange oldish name - 'vampi' - this food is a reference for something you want to vomit when you here about it - and it's our national specialty.
Ok so I've been fairly disgusted by this point but I got my own stuff to share anyway... Basically I'm not sure if this actually classifies as food but here in South India, poverty is so rampant that some people live on the streets with their families and subsist on rat-meat. What's strange about this is that they don't bother to cook the little things very often. It's like catch em, kill em, eat em.
That is good stuff..... I have had dog before here in the US...didnt know it was but some coworkers brought in dog and Balut.... they were both ok...
Edible fried bugs, here in thailand they eat them. Even my girlfriend eats them sometimes and after i dont want to kiss her. One time i did try it and it didnt taste like much
pig intestines... its called "isaw" here in the philippines.. hmmm delicious.. i think almost all part of the big gets eaten here.. the tail.. the nose.. the brain.. the blood.. the ears.. all different menus.. hehehe..
Beaver Tails! It sounds strange but it's actually just a really tasty pastry that has no beaver tails in it what so ever !
