Yes, but forums don't give that much weight when it comes to SERPs. They do give you some juice thought.

It will help without any doubts. Maybe not as much as you might be expecting but it will certainly help. You could a experiment your self, check where you rank before you put a signature link to the forum and than check after a week or two where is your current position and you will know the results.

Stepping aside from the algorithm debate and getting down to pure logic, if people on a forum are discussing a topic and someone links to site, odds are the link is relevant to the topic. So in that regard the link probably carries some weight.

But, if the big G decides that it's seeing to many spammy links from certain forums, it probably won't count those as much.

Some forums use the "nofollow" code, which makes placing links on the forum useless. Either way placing links to your site in a forum will no doubt, if done regularly and relevantly, increase traffic to your site, which could prove just as valuable as improved SERP/PR. Because then people will start blogging about how good or bad your site is, and possibly youtube about it, etc. Forums are good place to put links to your site. Improved SERP is just a side effect to doing that, when "nofollow" is not being used. Another good place to link back to your site is with blog comments. Although do not be spammy about it, because the owner will most definitely delete your post if it isn't relevant or is spammy. And again the "nofollow" is used by some bloggers as well.

So all in all Its fair enough to say forum links from related theme will definitely help gaining SERP/PR well possible traffic too if that thread makes it to top, just like most of DP threads make to top of serps.

I have my answers, thanks to all who put their vote for it.

Link from theme related site will definitely help to get you more traffic, but this will not help much to improve PR, as most of the forum i seen are have low page rank. So its not worth efforts to improve PR in this way.

Couldn't agree more, forum links are pretty poor for SERP's and PR but if the link is related it may get you some traffic.

Any traffic is good traffic. No ?
Can you land up in the sand box if you use to many signatures or comments on irrelevant sites or forums ? I hope not

It is always good to get targeted traffic. Untargeted traffic will not help in any ways.

I don't think so. It will not hurt but will cost you for bandwidth. It will not help you as it is not good in the sense of off-page optimization. You want good PR you have to do targeted linkbuilding and you get targeted traffic.
