Digital point members tend to be pretty switched on .... right up there with the latest trends and developments so I thought i would ask this here. I realise it's a big ask to try and open up yet another Social Networking site with a point of difference to Myspace, Facebook etc. So I'm wondering what features you people would recommend are mandatory for a newcomer to the scene. What would a new site need in order to first get the visitors to take the step and become a member, and secondly, keep them as a member and keep them coming back.
To get people into the site in the first place: 1. Needs to have people on it in the first place to make others want to join. I mean would you join a social networking site if it only had 50 people on it? 2. Offer some sort of incentive the first couple of months or something, a competition maybe? Contests to see who can invite the most people? 3. A nice looking layout, easy to navigate. Some things to keep people there: 1. Some kind of customisation of your profile - html/css is always good. 2. An easy way to find friends/meet new people. 3. A good moderation team which are easy to contact about issues. 4. Active forum/groups, something like that for them to get involved with. Could probably name more if I thought more about it. Hope it helps, TS
Free beer for joining then a a keg of beer every three months if you use it for at least an hour a day and introduce 50 friends.
I did say I could probably have thought of more if I thought more about it. A friends list is a must. Messages/Comments are a must. blogs not so much, but would attract more people.
