    Hi,

I have a website with PR5. I would like to make some sub domains with different topics. Is that a good idea or I shouldn´t do that?

Please let me know what you think about it.

    Regards,

Content relevancy also matters when it comes to PR. If your subdomain is on a different topic, I don't believe it will benefit you in PR. PR isn't the sum of all links. Links can be so different and they vary in quality value. Google is smart enough not to count irrelevant links.

Just checked a couple of my own subdomains, and it looks like that they have all had a PR increase - so I don't think Google will be dropping PR on subdomains.

    Hi,

When you look at netscape.com or the new one propeller.com than you can see they have many differnt subdomains with different topics and every subdomain has hight PR.

    What do you think?

Google sees subdomains as another entity (another website), otherwise, all blogs on blogspot.com will have the same PR. :)

A little old but still one of the best articles on subdomains vs. subfolders that I know:

    Folders vs. Subdomains
    By Catherine Parker, Quirk Marketing
    From Highrankings.com

I see no evidence that subdomains are being discounted either. Even Google uses subdomains. :)

well if you'll just look at youtube. main page has PR 3... some subdomains have PR 8. so, i think subdomains are valued in a totally different way.

The main page for Youtube has been back at PR8 for a few days now. The drop down to PR3 was just temporary during the PR update.

Look no farther then the tip of your nose...

    forums.digitalpoint.com has a healthy pr.

I'm not saying having high pr submdomains will increase your tild's pr, because it won't. Subdomains are treated as individual sites.

They are treated as differents sites in the eyes of search engines, but if your main page is about sports and have subdomains for NFL, NBA, etc., it makes sense and may even help each other. Otherwise no big deal either way.

Subdomains are treated as different domain as per PR goes. However as per branding its good to use subdomain.
    for example
forums.cosmocentral.com is a better choice over a totally different domain name.
