I'm sure domain age has "something" to do with pagerank, probably related to how much PR you bleed to out bound links. This is one of those questions that no one can answering honestly truthfully with the correct answers, expect only opinions.
Domain age is one of the factor in SERP calculation but not PR tabulation. PR is simply base on quality of incoming links
And after last week we have found that how you "tag" your outbound paid links will play a role in your PR as well.
there's no hard evidence about the advantage in rankings of having an old domain than the fresh ones...maybe we can say that there's a little factor in those domains since they've already gained the 'trust' of the search engines.. however, the best way to improve your rankings in SERPS and PR is to create a quality content and focus on gathering natural one-way links
