I've started a pligg site for a specific niche and want to get it going. Its however quite difficult to get people to register and submit their own stories to this Web2.0 based service ( pligg.com ) Whats the best way to promote such a web2.0 portal? I of course write my own stories regularly. Link Building i do too, but would you use PPC to promote it too? Any help/suggestions/experiences are much appreciated.
I've set up a pligg site too. But, found it very hard to get it going. However, it's great for traffic. I too just bookmark everything that's interesting and put adbrite over it. nice in seeing 0.03 cents per day though. Cheers
I am working on writing my own articles and building links, those are the most effective ways. I would strongly suggest against using a PPC as it doesn't really bring the kinds of people your looking for, the best way for these kinds of sites to become popular is really word of mouth.
As you mention, very difficult to start a pligg site. Maybe you can make it so you don't need to be a member to vote etc. That way people can try the website without needing to go through the sign up. May lead to an increase in spam but? But it may work.
I'm thinking of starting a pligg site too. I agree that PPC may not be very useful for this kind of thing, if you are thinking of spending money on it I would invest it in getting people from DP to sign up and write some stuff for it the same as you are. Or just carry on with what you're doing, perhaps invent a few users and write articles in their name too? It's hard work though doing it all by yourself, especially if you have other sites you're trying to get going too?
