My past one-week Alexa rank is 113,286 for United States traffic. I am quite proud of it :).

For all of you who live in Yemen, I'm in the top 5,000 hehe :)

What's your current best Alexa rank?

    WHO CARES?

ALEXA IS THE MOST USELESS "TOOL" IN THE HISTORY OF THE INTERNET!

If you know how much traffic a site gets, then Alexa means nothing. If you are trying to use Alexa to estimate a site's traffic that usually doesn't work either - because Alexa is notoriously unreliable and easy to manipulate.

Hi ... am not sure Alexa is most useless tool in web history, but as for unstable, I couldn't agree more. Unstable algorithms aren't easy to manipulate, since predictability is the essence of manipulation: do x to cause Y+/-. If it's one, it's hard to be the other.

Alexa is more bizarre than anything: my uniques almost double and my Alexa ranking goes from 180,000 to 215,000 -- wrong direction.

As for usefulness of Alexa, it's not for those who take the time to know, but a great many don't take the time. It's part of the prestige package: uniques, page views, PR and Alexa. In a sane world, only the first two count. We live in an illogical world, where being able to say my site is PR4 and my Alexa is 99,876 means more than visitor counts. Ugh.

No, your traffic/revenue gives you an idea of where your site is.

I can get a site into the top 100,000 within a few days of launching it - I've done it before. Of course, that's done by cheating the system so it doesn't mean you are generating any significant legitimate traffic.

The only thing Alexa is 1/2 decent at is looking at what sites are very popular in a given niche...so you can look for typos or whatnot.

About 79,500. I just checked it for the first time in months; it looks like I've been improving a little bit (it was around 90,000) last time. I've never given Alexa a second thought, because at the moment I don't use any advertisers that pay more for a good Alexa rating. If I ever did, I'd probably cheat my way up. Just like dlm said, cheating Alexa is easy. It's probably the easiest blackhat technique out there, but it's also useless except for ripping off ignorant advertisers.

My blogstheme.com website is 223,212. I'm proud to see my alexa ranking going up.

It might not be accurate, but it's useful, to compare your site with other websites that are in the same industry, and this way you can see how much you traffic you could get.

I think for the internet marketing industry it gives a good gauge because the majority of visitors would probably have the alexa toolbar.

I do think it is useful if comparing two sites in the same industry with similar demographics.

    3 months avg: 5,170
    yesterday: 3,011

I think alexa works better if you get a decent amount of traffic (1k+ perday)

Agreed, and that is exactly what we have been using it for. Stats seem to go up and down somewhat accurately with the marketing efforts or lack thereof, but there is a delay in the reporting there that seems too long.

They also appear to get better tracking on sites that are in the top 100K
