New Sub-Forum for Signatures & Avatars

Hi. I'll preamble this post by saying that I did search to see if this topic was discussed, so please no "this topic has been discussed many times". Thanks.

So my forum suggestion/recommendation would be to create a sub-forum in the Buy, Sell or Trade forum and call it something like:

DP Business, DP User Promotions, or Signatures & Avatars
"For those looking to buy or sell their forum signatures, avatars, and blog links."

My reason and rationale for this suggestion?

Well, everyday the Link Sales forum is filled with offers for signature threads and replies. Then the auctions begin, and the forum becomes swollen with posts like "$5 here" and "I'll give you $8 / month", etc, etc.

These signature threads take over the Link Sales forum, they're always at the top, and they bloat the DP forum spy which I like to use on another monitor to watch for "relevant" posts.

And not everyone in Link Sales is interested in buying or selling signatures (I'm not anyhow) -- I'm there because I'm interested in links.

I know signatures and avatars are a micro-economy within this forum, but it would be nice to put it aside somewhere where it doesn't have to compete and fight for "top billing" with the true business of link sales.

its a good idea but will never happen. DP refuses to move social bookmark trades out of the freebies forum, and thats a much worse situation...

Possibly not, but I'm charismatic, and my idea is tempting, like the chocolate drizzle on top of a tasty sundae treat.

I really can't see a need for it because it fits in the category of link sales. DP certainly can't add sub-forums for everything requested or the forum would be overloaded with sub-forums. JMO

Allout, I would say your position on this is quite apparent just by looking at your signature:

"Signature and Recent Blogspot up for sale! PM me any offers!"

My argument is that it's not really a link sale, where you sell a link on a website that you own, or buy one from a site that someone else owns. And you can't ignore how many garbage posts that every signature thread creates.

Any link is a link sale as long as you provide someone a link pointing to their site. I do not disagree with you that there are some garbage signature threads. But I can also search every forum and sub forum and find garbage post.
My question is at what point would you say DP should quit making sub forums? Do we make one for social booking threads? Split it further and do digg and stumble upon separate? What about one for spam reports? How about one for birthdays? How about one to announce you have 1000 posts? The list can go on and on.

It is not going to happen because if it did, everyone would want a new sub forum.

I wouldn't see this coming any time soon. I also agree that it would certainly make the forum much more organized.

I don't see why it would hurt to create those sub-forums, as there appears to be a need for them, in that these specific types of posts are being made at highly disproportionate numbers in their general category. Of course, maybe DP has it's own reasons.

That kind of stuff shouldn't be allowed to begin with (for DP at least)- IMO.

Why shouldn't users be allowed to sell signature links here?

Not that I condone or support selling signatures, nor that my opinion matters, but by placing a value on someone's posts, it just encourages more garbage posts to inflate post counts, and bloats the forum with pointless replies that not even the thread starter cares about beyond the free bump.

If posting wasn't incentivized ($$$), then people would be more likely to post when its more relevant or to simply contribute useful and meaningful information to a thread, instead of spamming the same "stumbled you as billybob" or "pm me more information". Also, you'd eliminate people creating multiple accounts simply for the purpose of selling signatures.

    I support you idea Tiktok.

I believe that a forum should be a community of people helping each other. Although I am not against selling signature , a Sub- Foru like that can be used to keep posts neat and organized.

Well this is just my opinion.

No advantage of supporting or not. I'd suggest no more sub forums atm since there are already more than 75 forums...

    I like the idea.

As of now, some signature/avatar sales are in link sales, b/s/t main, traffic, etc.

They are scattered and there is no permanent marketplace.

Yeah, but there's still tons of crap being posted, like 'what is SEO?' 'what are backlinks?' etc, 'I agree with someass', etc
