Can this be true? Al Qaida starts cyber terrorism boldly

Just got this info from DEBKAfiles.

In a special Internet announcement in Arabic, picked up DEBKAfile’s counter-terror sources, Osama bin Laden’s followers announced Monday, Oct. 29, the launching of Electronic Jihad. On Sunday, Nov. 11, al Qaeda’s electronic experts will start attacking Western, Jewish, Israeli, Muslim apostate and Shiite Web sites. On Day One, they will test their skills against 15 targeted sites expand the operation from day to day thereafter until hundreds of thousands of Islamist hackers are in action against untold numbers of anti-Muslim sites.

DEBKAfile’s counter-terror sources report that, shortly after the first announcement, some of al Qaeda’s own Web sites went blank, apparently crashed by the American intelligence computer experts tracking them.

    Read it all here

I must admit it makes me a little nervous ...

Yeah I heard a rumour that Bin Laden has finally got broadband in his cave in the middle of nowhere.

I think he got 2MB Cable. He was on dial-up when he masterminded 9/11 from there.

Honestly AGS, thats one of the lamest response coming from you, I have ever seen.

The E-Jihad or what-fucking-ever you call it, isn't something new..
Dont we have hackers hacking sites and leaving messages written in Arabic for a long time now? Hasn't DP just suffered a DDos attack just few days back?

Terrorists have been using Internet to co-ordinate, to communicate and to spread their propaganda. Few years back Indian Military faced a hacking attempt on one of it's secure Intranet networks.

They do not hesitate in killing innocent people, what makes you think they don't have capability to hack the sites or they wont do it?

Just ignore the terrorists. Seriously, Why are america, Supposedly the most powerful nation on the planet, Frightened of a few thousand no-marks who don't have a pot to piss in?

The only weapon they have is the ability to say they may do something at some point and then they sit back and watch you cowards run around like school girls who have just seen a spider.

Because those few thousand no-marks can kill a lot of people especially if they get their hands on chemical or nuclear weapons which they tried to in the past and Unlike Iran which is a country with a stated location of where you can bomb them, Al-Qaeda on the other hand has no country and its harder to retaliate against them.

They wont be able to get weapons like that, And if they do how the hell are they going to get them in to america? you are simply looking for reasons to be frightened.

If they do get a weapon like that how hard would it be to put it on a shipping container and ship it here and by the time it comes through inspection it can blow up at the ports here can cause damage and disruption to our economy much great then anything that 9-11. Or they can bring it across the Mexican border, its not very secure down there.

Because there is a world beyond America and Britain, The world which is being affected by terrorism (No, not American terrorism)...

Terrorism is not exclusive for America and Britain...

I wouldn't like to comment on authenticity of this news item.

however, there is a strong possibility that cyber-terrorism will emerge as a major global threat in the future.

it is clear that the terrorists cannot defeat the US and its allies in a military confrontation. i guess now even the terrorists know this fact.

as the western economies are much more dependent on information networks, it makes a lot of sense for the terrorists to start targeting them.

make no mistake - terrorists have sympathizers among highly educated and skilled professionals too.

sites like godaddy.com - in spite of all their IT expertise, have been brought down in the past by nothing more than simple ddos attacks.

what makes cyber-terrorism a bigger threat is that it does not require the physical presence of a terrorist in any particular territory or country.

plus it can do a much bigger financial damage than a bomb in middle of london would have done.

    possible case of amnesia?

    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=510880

terrorism is not always organized and backed by large groups and money.

it can be just a couple of guys who take a destructive path to achieve what they think is right.

there are dozens of members here who have been victims of Turkish hacking groups here. these attacks were not carried out for any financial gain. the only motive behind these attacks was to prove a point.

today the number and size of attacks are limited, but that does not mean they will remain so in the future too.
