What hosting company do you recommend?

    Hello,

I am currently working with GoDaddy and I truly regret it. They are the worst hosting company ever.

What kind of hosting package would you recommend ? Shared, VPS (virtual private server/virtual dedicated server) or PS/DS (private server/dedicated server) ?

I currently have 1800 visitors / day and I hope it will grow. What package and company do you recommend? Which is the min amount of RAM a decent server should have?

I current use asmallorange. They are pretty good and so far, I'm quite happy with their services. :)

You'll find more information in the Web Hosting section of this forum.
There are many companies and members of DigitalPoint who offer great hosting. Look around, make a short list and ask questions to those that interest you.

Whether shared/vps or dedicated is right for you depends on bandwidth and space. 1800 users downloading mp3s or watching videos is not the same as 1800 users reading your blog.

HostGator sounds ok. What hosting package do you currently have? I need to have SSH access and other stuff like that.

Server specs are really contingent on what type of site you are running. This is also true for deciding shared vs. dedicated.

I host 15 sites on a shared server with Hostgator with no problems.

Oh crap! I just added GoDaddy as a hosting company. I thought it would be easier for buying/selling domains.

I hope it was just a rare experience you had.

I have had a pretty good experience with Lunarpages. They're usually very responsive and easy to work with...

GoDaddy is great for buying/selling domains it's just their hosting that sucks.

The problem with that forum is the majority of people offering hosting there are there to get some quick money then run. I mean $10 one time fee hosting is clearly not going to last.

    Some popular web hosts though;

    HostGator
    Lunarpages
    Dreamhost

    all come to mind

The hostgator also frequents various forums including digital point and responds to complaints.

I'd also like to plug Hawk Host as well. We're no massive company like HostGator but I like to believe we offer a quality product and more of a personal touch compared to others due to our still relatively small size compared to the very large ones. But that's not to say we're not growing at a quick rate by any means.

I have 2 accounts with dreamhost atm and am not happy, their servers seem to be getting worse with loads of downtime.

I will be moving over to another host soon.

I agree that Bluehost's / HostMonster's support is great. Check into them for your needs/specs as they only offer one plan. HostGator has more hosting options and therefore might be the better choice for you. Best of luck :)
