Install some analytics program (like google analytics or statcounter). That'll tell you where your traffic is coming from. :)

That prefetch issue is interesting - if you use statcounter as your main method of analysing your traffic it is noticeable that every stumbleuopn 'hit' is in fact 2 or 3 pageloads. I've even discussed it on here before, and sort of knew it was something to do with how stumbleupon calls up a page without knowing exactly what it was doing. However, in statcounter at least, only the first 'call' counts as a unique , so it's not really skewing my stats.

I can't find the exact source of the traffic sended by stumble.
It displayed only stumbleupon.com in Google Analytics.

    Any ideas?

That means it is coming from the referrer or the home page. So when people click "stumble" on their tool bar they get your site or it is coming from the "websites" section on SU itself. I get it all the time.

Thanks, this explains why I'm seeing an apparent surge in SU traffic, but not so much of an increase in signups, or even SU votes. And it explains why these SU users always seem to arrive in groups.

Really, this sucks. It's a drain on bandwidth and CPU resources which isn't fair on those people who are actually visiting and using my websites. Multiply this over all of the websites in SU's index, and that's a lot of wastage.

I was seeking for stumble traffic until I got some.
That is probably the worse traffic I've ever had.
98% bounce rate, 0 returning visitors and not even a single click on an ad. I'm glad now I get only 10/20 a day.

the same thing happened to me 2 days ago - 40 SU hits and the next day, not a single one.

Wow, something worth LESS than untargeted traffic. Traffic that doesn't actually view the page!

This is interesting, no wonder SU drives so much traffic but the effect seems so minimal. Still, it can't hurt; SOME people are seeing the page and hopefully a few here and there will like it a lot...

Actually, I think it's verging on referral spam. SU is obviously sending this referral info whether or not a visitor arrives, and it's more than likely doing this in order to pomote itself, as well as for any speed benefit for the user.

So it messes up your stats, drains your bandwidth and CPU resources, and sends the kind of visitors who are only surfing randomly.

If you get "featured" somewhere on SU you will get some hits. I got around 2000 visits in 2 days from an article in my blog which is quite an ok increase in traffic.

Interesting. I just went to stumble this forum and got this message:

Did DP ask to not be included?

Maybe Shawn realized long ago that it was needlessly sucking his BW. DP is usually a little slow for me, I think due to the huge number of people who are always on it.

So that's the new goal for the rest of us: have a website so popular that we have to ask social bookmarking sites NOT to link to us!
