Its been a fews days now. I submited my url to google and yahoo, pinged it and yet my squidoo is not index yet. I remember with my last squidoo page it was on google within hours, whats going on
Indexing is not something that happens overnight, sometimes it does, but usually not. Get some backlinks from sites already indexed, also create a xml sitemap, robots.txt file, these are all tools to help you get indexed by all seach engines
Is your content 100% original? I don't worry with submitting my pages to search engines, they'll find it in their own good time. Quality content gets found. You can't create an xml sitemap or robots.txt file at Squidoo.
How does your lens rank in it's category and in Squidoo overall? I have found that my lenses don't show up in Google until they have started ranking well on Squidoo. This also works the opposite way, in that if a lens drops in rankings on Squidoo, it will stop ranking well in Google.
While this may be your experience I have found that it doesn't work that way. Google doesn't take into account lensrank at all. Squidoo lensranking is affected by traffic. So if you're playing well in Google and those keyword searches are actually getting traffic, then it will increase your lensrank. But lensrank isn't important. Outside visitors who read or buy off a lens don't care about rank or how many stars a lens has.
From what I have seen, when a lens ranks well on squidoo it can be listed on squidoo pages that have higher PR. I believe that this helps when the lens is getting crawled and ranked in searches.
The effect would be minimal, because all the pages are within the squidoo.com domain. Mind you I'm not disrespecting Lensrank because I'm fairing poorly. I currently have two lenses in the Top 100 Overall. And numerous in Top 100 by category. I have some real winners at Google with them landing on the first page of results for their keyword but they in the 1,000's or even 10,000's (and some even deeper) when it comes to Lensrank. Even if they only get a trickle of visitors you know they're quality traffic. One of which had only been published for 3 days had 3 visitors and made an Amazon sale.
I read somewhere that Google had a "Squidoo slap" and it was affecting the ranking of all lenses. Does anyone know if there is any validity to that? Thanks! Carl
Thats interesting. I don't have any that rank well in Google if they don't fair better than top 1000 in Squidoo. So what's your secret?
There was a slap of some description. No one can say for sure the exact reasons though. We can speculate, but at the end of the day it's just guessing. That effect seems to have worn off. Though to be honest my best performing lenses stayed steady despite this slap. I think it was Google deindexing the duplicate content.
Originality. And uniqueness. There are things that interest me that I write about and it may only have a few visitors a week from Google. But I'm there with the right information. Others can get around 500+ visitors a week. My best performing lens with 3000+ visitors (week in week out) doesn't get much love from Google. It's coming from Yahoo. My best traffic for one week for a single lens was 14,000 visitors. But that didn't come from a search engine. Each lens has a story (not talking about the topic, but it's performance). It's hard to predict performance. And interpreting trends can sometimes be hit and miss. But the more lenses you have the easier it is to see patterns. Especially with 100+ lenses in a lensmaster account. There are so many variables. And what works for me might not work for you, and vice versa. And HOW it works for me might not work for you either.
You have got to give it time additionally your tags may be a factor if they are too competitive. I think the google slap was down to the spam problem.
I'm up to a couple hundred lenses at this point and I can say that indexing runs anywhere from immediately (very rare/lucky) to over a month (very rare/unlucky) with most of my lenses getting indexed initially within 5-10 days with no promotion. They usually start climbing up serps after 30-60 days with slowly increasing traffic (if your content is good and 'evergreen'). IMHO, time is better spent building another lens than worrying about why the one you have hasn't been indexed yet.. It'll get there, don't worry.
