My horrible luck!!

2 weeks ago, I had to shut down access to my websites because I went over my bandwidth...

    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=518563

...I just put my websites back online and I found that my pageranks all went from PR3/PR2 to unranked!!! Plus, they're not even found on the first few pages of the SERPs for their own keywords...

    http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=pirate+proxies&btnG=Search&meta=

What horrible, horrible luck. I've been waiting for the past year, building backlinks, pulling SEO, and constantly adding and updating content. And now, because my site was down while Google was doing their update, I lost everything I worked for. I'm so unbelievably pissed off right now. Not really from the pagerank as I never put much emphasis on it, and now even less emphasis. But from my drop in the SERPs. All because I was forced to take my site offline for 2 out of the past 52 weeks!! This blows.

Your rankings will improve again a few days after the Googlebot visited your website, and it notices your website is up again.

You are right, the traffic will be back to normal but the pagerank will not, (until the next update).

This is not really a problem but many webmasters rate the page rank over the actual SEO rankings.

Dude i totally feel your pain...I had some sites shut down a year ago also for bandwidth and I lost tla customers/advertisers that never came back. I now pay more but i have more bandwidth. Did you use a proxy on your hosting?

Nope... it was my image host that used up the bandwidth.

I sure hope you guys are right about the SERPs results returning. The pagerank is no big deal as I don't plan to sell links and/or the sites.

Thanks for the beacon of hope :p

I agree... SERP result will return fairly quickly as G seems pretty quick at the mo in picking up new, updated pages, etc. PR will return on the next update I'd guess but I wouldn't lose sleep over it... it isn't likely to have a great affect on your SERP position...

Sorry man. However, from what I hear, Google is supposed to update PR every 3 months.. So just wait for January. Keep your hopes up, keep adding content and working on the website.

Then again, that's just my opinion.

Yep, traffic should come back to normal within few days. Do some social bookmarking to prepone the googlebot visit to your sites.

dude... you should have been monitoring your bandwidth and you shoulda bailed before you were about to hit the limit. it's not as if you were slashdoted right? even if the bandwidth overage was due to a spike, you could have transferred everything and been up and running with 48 hours.

in this day and age, it is unacceptable to be down for two weeks. i mean, i feel sorry for your users, who were shut out for two weeks. my users start bitching if i'm down for 20 minutes, never mind 2 hours or 2 days or good heavens 2 weeks.

Gotta agree with this... in this day when hosting isn't exactly expensive to be down for two weeks??!... man I'd be out of a job if my main site was down for even a whole day!

I can almost guarantee your PR will be back in a couple of days/weeks as well. I have had a week downtime while I was on holiday, the PR was back within a week.

Can't blame Google - they don't want to refer traffic to sites that are not there.

    WTF!

    What pot u smoking.

To the OP, lesson to be learned here. Don't skimp on resources, if you are serious about the web you need to monitor your sites. Like a traditional bricks and mortar business closing down for a short period of time will have a detrimental affect especially if you don't advise your customers.

Thanks for the replies but please don't take my posts the wrong way. I do not, at all, blame my host for charging me for the excess bandwidth or google for removing my pagerank and SERP. I'm simply mad at my own stupidity and the timing of it all.
