I surfed the internet and found an inactive (no update for years) site. It has a PR 4 and has registered for 9 years. I used tools to find out it has no links to it. Apparently, no SEO work has been done on this site, i.e. pages not optimized and no link building. I just wonder what factors made the site a PR 4. Is Age a very important factor in this case.
I don't no if domain age is important. I suppose a site that has been in the Google database for a long time, like the one you mentioned, would be more reputable. It may actually have a high pr due to links not being shown in the tool you used. I think the only way to find out back links is through the Google webmasters online tool. Post the url, let other people check it out.
There are many factors in achieving high PRs and age were one of those factors because google trust these sites. I have read before in one forum, if your site was made before year 2000 it was considered a trusted site by google and reward it with high PR. Some webmasters prefer to buy old domain rather than new ones because of these factors.
I'm sure if you use the below two lines in google search you'll find backlinks to this site, this is most likely the source of the PR. link:thesiteaddress.com or link: thesiteaddress.com Yes, they both yield different results.
I tried the above and nothing is returned from the search. I just happened finding another inactive domain which has been registered for 10 yr. But it has a PR 0. Given that both sites do not have Yahoo and DMOZ links. Also no IBLs. How can we explain this?
My guess is that there are backlinks but Google don't show them. I think it's a part of their practices to make it harder for us to know how different things(like backlinks) effect our sites.
age is not important for PR... maybe that website had a lot of backlinks to it... or maybe it was top pick for a keyword
Pr is just a illusion in SREP move ahead of PR one of mysite moved to PR 5 from 3. but traffic increase or decrease and two moved from PR6 to 5 and the traffic remain same
Of course the age change. Exemple : Take 2 page PageA= PR5 & PageB = PR0 PageA only give one link the PageA and PageB only one link to PageB (i don't respect the mathématical scale of the real PR) before the 1st google dance : A = 5 & B = 0 after the 1st google dance : A = 3 & B = 2 after the 2nd google dance : A = 2.7 & B = 2.3 after the 3nd google dance : A = 2.6 & B = 2.4 after the 3nd google dance : A = 2.55 & B = 2.45 after the 3nd google dance : A = 2.52 & B = 2.48 etc... That a therical case. but the PR act like that. If you create new page at the first google dance these page take some pagerank and give nothing. the next dance these page have their own and could give more PR.... and again ... and again (the changes are smaller and smaller)
The site name is dreamcruises [dot] com. I used most of the tools incl. SmartpageRank.com to check PR. It shows a PR 4. Later, I used another tool and found it is a FAKE PR. So the numbers of BLs is not important. Can someone show me where this site steal the PR from? What tools can I use?
That is completely fake pagerank on the site you are asking about. There has been a redirect done on this site before. The site that the pagerank is being displayed for is www.cruise-connections [dot] com
and there is no pr being "stolen", the pr you see is just a display of the redirect site, and is not being used for anything the actual pr for the dreamcruise site is probably zero, and will show that way eventually once enough time passes without any current redirects
