Hope i'm in right section. if someone was attempting to get maximum returns on search topic and say the subject is dog breeds if dog breeds is most searched term but best dog breeds, top dog breeds and xxxx dog breeds are next best terms. Would it be advisable to use these keywords as domain names ( assuming they are available, this is hypothetical ) and set up spearate websites for each term ( bestdogbreeds.com, topdogbreeds.com, etc..) and work your way up to top pr on each phrase using the domain names. OR direct the 3 domain names to just one site. Please explain. Does this make sense. Please don't give me the moron of the year award for this question. I asppreciate your input. And i apologize in advance if i am wasting your time.
I'd focus on the main domain name that you want to use. Not only is registering multiple domain names for something like this a waste of money, but developing those sites will also be a waste of time as well unless you have people maintaining those sites for you. In your case I'd just focus on a main topic that the site will be about (in your case dog breeds) and then use a directory structure to point to each breed of dog you want to write about. If each breed will have its own group of related content (like Jack Russell Terriers for instance - how to care for a Jack Russell, types of Jack Russell Terriers, best type of environment for a Jack Russell, and so forth), then you may want to consider using a subdomain (which the search engines will consider to be separate sites, but will otherwise be part and parcel of your site) for each breed of dog.
I agree with Dan, However i must also add that if you are looking for keyword stuffed URL's (Which I think are tacky personally), Most hosting companies provide Unlimited sub-domains (Utilize them). (e.g. top.dogbreeds.com, best.dogbreeds.com, blue.ribbon.dogbreeds.com, etc...) The possibilities are endless with sub-domains. It has also been said that sub-domains hold a little more weight in the engine Vs. using sub-directories when used for sub-linking to the root URL. Just my thoughts on it, I don't see why one would waist money on several domain names when most engines read sub-domains as a different url's anyways, and they are free (Not to mention that with good on-page & off-page optimizing, any URL will site good in the SERPS).....
In your example, scorpionagency, he'd be best off using a directory structure, not subdomains, since they're related to the main Web site.
Here is more thoughts on my discussion For the most part, what is websites purpose - sell something i don't go to the bathroom unless i'm getting paid - altruism is dead so how do i sell the most amount of XXXX ( weho cares, dogs, books, whatever ) first i look to see what is consumer searching, then i get best domain, fill content, submit to directories, link link link and link some more. But if consumer searches for dogs. And you have dogs.com you have some competitive search engine advantage, ( assume you are bright enough to fill with original content (( ha ----original content---i haven't met someone smart enough to make original content )) links, keyword optimization, etc..) Now, wouldn't makes sense to operate multiple domains, go thru steps 1-5 ( content, links, keywords, etc...) and grab top orgain ranking with mutiple sites and in conclusion snag the sales to these customers that you want. One negative i find in domain discussions is the domain forum people talk about adsense sales and namzy pamzy nonsene - by that i mean, they are happy making $300.00, $400.00, whatever per month. I don't what my audience is reading this post, but eventhough i'm not filthy rich...i have to figure my time is worth ?????$40.00 an hour ( 2000 working hours a year, $80,000.00 in income ) tell me you design, establish and sell something ( any website _ with the intention on making less than that. What do the guys on the domaining forums do with $400.00 a month.? Back to the question. Sell dog collars - how? multiple sites for multiple keywords registered as domain names, sites slightly different, nab 2 dog collar sales per site per day...retire to ?bahamas,,vegas clearly cost of domain and site hosting is insignificant. Please advise. I apologize if i come across as offensive. And thanks for input so far. (( PS again i apologize if offensive. And i am not interested in anything dog related, just an example, i have 2 but they are for the kids, i'm 44 ( yuck) been in the mortgage business 17 years i generally make more than than the example i gave...but..the mortgage business is going in the wrong direction ))
If he is looking for all his pages to ultimately relate to the Parent or root site, then yes, you are right. If he is looking to create separate target markets (With limited interference from other key words), then a Sub-domain is the way to go. So, you think spending xxx amount of dollars for xxx amount of domains is better than utilizing xxx amount of free sub-domains that do the same thing? Interesting...... I have to disagree with you. I think that the majority of businesses don't truly understand the full potential of sub-domains (Hinse why most don't use them). Sub-domains are great for Geo-targeting campaigns such as state, city, county, etc. - texas.yoursite.com, georgia.yoursite.com, arizona.yoursite.com - clark.nevada.yoursite.com, bexar.texas.yoursite.com - austin.texas.yoursite.com, chicago.illinois.yoursite.com - You can do this with related products as well just as easy. The options are limitless.....
Thank you for your input Scorpionagency i am getting extremely valuable education on sub domains It would be great if i could allocate the time to test two different theories on multi domain web site marketing and domain w/ multi subdomain web site marketing it see which yields greatest return
