why has this time so many sites PR been dropped? I have noticed this number of sites and new sites getting PR are totally normal.

My website with huge pages indexed, with backlinks increasing....
PR was 6 around 1 year back, then came down to 5 and now 4.

couple of my site dropped a point but my newest site that i started few months back got its first PR which is 5 so i'm happy overall. besides, i myself is not too concerned about PR these days because PR doesn't really bring any traffic itself. i have seen site with PR0 being on the top and site with PR3 or 4 is way below for the same keyword. so PR is not the ony thing.

There is rumor Google checking high PR sites manually. Sites like New York Times lost PR.

my pr has remained the same but my new sites have picked up PR..

but as u guys probably already know PR is not that important for positioning.. i have a few PR2 doing really well for very competitive keywords...

proper SEO work is much more important that high PR

Google has changed their algorythm that calculates PR. They seem to be reducing PR of sites that sell text links for PR.

They are trying to discourage this.

Link selling has devastated everything.. no body could ever imagine this disastrous state... well i want to ask one question that if we go for payperpost or any other campaigns like them, are we still selling links and going to be banned...

I guess I lucked out because all mine went up. Even the site I sold a few months ago jumped up. The sites that seem to be dropping are the ones that have openly purchased or sold links.

Public PR has nothing to do with SERPs.
It has no real value any more. I wonder why people still take it into account.
What really matters these days is SERPS.

    This will be some reasons
Duplicate content from other sites or duplicate domains with same content.
    Using Black-hat techniques.
Keyword stuffing (this will end-up in site getting banned)
