Repairing Paid Link Damage

Once you've removed all paid links, terms have expired etc. How do you repair the damage? How does google know that the links throughout your site are now clean? Do they automatically detect the removal?

Good question, but I don't think anyone could answer at the moment, because we still don't know much about the new Google paid links penalties. For example we don't know for sure that everytime Google crawls your page, it also looks for paid links or paid links are sought after when the backlinks are updated.

I just hope that after some time, the effects of having had paid links will completely vanish.

Well I don't think paid linkers were banned, or need to be reincluded.. I did read though that there is actually hand checking being done for paid links.. that in mind, I'm very curious about the removal of penalties, many many many sites were hit with this one.

dcristo - Yes my PR went down pretty much across the board (35 sites) as did most of the sites that belong to ppl i know personally.

All you can really do is wait it out for the next toolbar PR update.

Well I'm not so much into the toolbar ranking at the moment..more keyword ranking, serp.. etc, then we'll work on that PR ;) day to day stuff..

The biggest worry is that the next update will not help..

Did your serps go down as well? I though the paid link penalty did not affect serps too much.

but it is definite that "loss is there" for paid web directories now. Even, if SERPs not affected.

Not to get off subject but the only loss is within the value of the pr itself. Do you think a link of problogger.net is any less valuable because he went down 1 PR point?

I think "loss" is the wrong way to look at it. It's more like a "shift" in PR. PR6 paid links are like PR7 free links. that's all.

I lost PR on one of my 4 sites ( a relatively new site). Suddenly plunged from 3 to 0 and went off the radar as far as serp (from #2 to 100+). Didn't have paid links, but most of links were from MY other sites and apparently the Big-G penalized for that linking strategy as well (according to todays ineedhits weekly news)

Interestingly, the serps from the older, referring sites dropped a bit at the same time, though their PRs weren't affected. Were they being penalized for providing the links, hmmmmh??

I didn't ask G to revisit, just sat around trying to figure out what I was going to do to "fix" the site, and Voila! it just reappeared in top position in the serp's with pr restored as well. Looks like they're doing some corrections on their own.

That makes a lot of sence, it's no secret that I sell links, but I did 'seriously' loose ranking.. I'm shocked when I find myself above 500 for most terms i had top 20 or higher for two weeks ago. I do inner link between all of my sites A LOT!

I was thinking about going dedicated anyway, looks like now's the time.

This has been said, and discounted already, the sites are still included, they don't need to be 'reincluded' theyre just penalized.

When you say paid links, does that include sponsored posts (for example from PayPerPost)?

My PR went from 6 to 4. Most likely caused by text-link-ads? I am thinking of removing text-link-ads, but should I also delete all the posts I did for PPP?

    Thanks.

I belive you just need to nofollow the PPP links, I'm sorry I don't have the link for you, but there is a specific mention of paid blog reviews on Matt Cutts blog. :)

I stand corrected, that's a great article, with really great usefull info.

Put "nofollow" in the PPP links? Is this better than completely removing those posts? They are all old posts and have been paid.
