How Directories of the future will look ?

There are many different uses and applications for Directories
This is our NEW one we are focusing on :-

    City Journalist Directory
    http://www.cityjournalistdirectory.com/

We are going to integrate into the site too with Web 3.0 applications similar to
    TWINE
    http://www.twine.com/about

Anymore ways that you know of out there to add more creativity either to the site or the functions of this Directory ?

    Comments Please :-

Thanks for the comments adnan

The concept is based around topical real time news events either Live or Historical but relating to something that has caught/or will catch the attention of people

We already have a large quantity to approve that we are processing all with prices so that the images can be used by Journalists, Historians, Photographers, Newspapers, magazines etc etc

But running it as a Directory gives you that search/and/or browse option to search by Date, Event, Location etc etc :)

Pete, CJD looks amazing. Must have taken a lot of work to get there. I reckon the system could be popular and the business model a real earner for your company. You should make sure the "make money online" blogosphere get a look at that, im sure many of them will be interested at making some money selling their photos.

Unique ideas in development and marketing are the way forward. Sites like Petes - the pure concept is unique and will help dirve traffic.

Unique content will help bring traffic and increase revenue.

Unique marketing ideas - trying things to bring traffic and sales that others have yet to explore will bring attention to your site. For example when i had john chow review zorg links, not only did it bring a swarm of traffic, it increased my exposure resulting in a few sales and brining many further reviews and natural backlinks to the site.

Remember be different, but not too different. Dont be a sheep and follow what others are doing. Im not saying dont use a certian script or use the default design as thats different, im saying be clever and provide the user with something that they cant find on any other site.

Always remember, content is king. It gets said too often but people still dont listen. Dont me yet another paid directory. Dont try sell pagerank. Dont make a directory to get rich.

The site looks good, some general comments, in the basic concept of people adding news stories then others to download buy them ?

Perhaps on the left panel where you have the pics, it might be a place to have some text in latest release order with MORE INFO attached along with the pic. Then if possible a widget or rss type feed so that news rooms etc around the globe can bring in the latest articles, and or even some sort of email alert system to help get these articles out and about. you might have it but just cant see them ?

any way just an idea, hope thats what you were looking for.

Pete, you have a really cool and unique concept there. Try some offline marketing with this one... I bet it would do well advertised in the local news papers.

i like the concept, its original and very web 2.0, just from the color combination you can tell this website belong to pete, i also think that the sidebar (images list) and the categories presentation still needs some Finishing Touches! i wish you all the best with this project!

    cheers.

This is a good example a great example of a modern era web directory. It's a directory of news that can gather faster then anything. May also become a medium for large media corps to purchase fresh content as it happens.

Very cool Pete. Wish you the best of luck and the future looks interesting.

Greatly appreciated and the comments about the content has been noted and we are going to make sure we get a Text Box right on view to display the words behind the Picture or Video

    Thanks champ.

I will run through some of the little tweaks.

the background is one shade of blue , off white to take away glare from the eyes.

the menu bar is designed to be low key and will sit in the same spot in the entire directory and is the only navigation bar making it simple to use.

the sub menu ( centre white ) will conect up when counts increase naturaly for example when there are 100 AUS entries it will break down into a sub directory for AUS or any country, these will further fall down into state, suburb and post / zip when numbers are reached.

The layout can change based on customers needs, the top can have a left banner box, right banner box, both left and right banner boxs or a full width as shown.

the centre panel can be full width or have the extra column as shown.

all our own information has been removed to allow full display for the customer, we just place a small logo at the bottom.

note no PR or any related info supplied.

The page is 100% dynamic in that, all sections can be rotated static or changed at any time.

you see some variable happening when you press the refresh button, but in essence you can have as many banners rotating as you want, as many pictures rotating, even the text can rotate or update, the links down the side can all be dynamic, simply nothing stays the same. ( it would be possible to have 100 combinations of your page rotating at once if you wanted to )

how this works can be seen in several ways a person veiwing the directory may skip your page the first look around but when they return it could look 100% different catching thier eye.

you could also for example have a festive theme pre timed to turn on and off when wanted, or you may wish to time your directory feature page to work with other advertising.

so say you are going to have a half price sale in january you could pre load your text, banners, links, pictures all to turn on at the exact time you wish to run your targeted campaign then revert back at the end.

in a way limitless, also at any time you can get a full report on every part of your page, ie views click throughs, what is waiting to be run in a promo, what has expired, every single part.

this report will also list any other promos like premium advertising etc etc. ( just need to get that button working :))

the sections can be gif, flash if need be. all fonts dsplayed etc can be adjusted to anything you want.

the left panel due to the nature of this test site does not allow me to show all of the options ( there are many that suit everything known ) if not we will add it.

you can bring in live stuff like your latest news , blogs or any other info as well.

Im sure there's more but that a start.

    :)

yep did forget something, in this example the forum members can submit new videos or pictures, to the rotation with the older ones dropping of and the new ones coming on line, keeping that section fresh.
