I have been wondering about this since all this PR hit on directories. Now dirjournal.com has gone to PR 7. Would the owner of this site would have been happy to get PR 6 instead of PR 7 as PR 7 really makes you stand out and brings you in the Lime light. As, every one knows the owner has bought 1000's of PR links to achieve this. If you look at what happened to Excellent Guide and Big Web Links. I can bet the owner of dirjournal.com did not wanted this. What do you guys think.
It is hard to say IMO. Google seems to give new sites higher PR then old sites from my experience, but who knows.
hindsight is alway pretty good. If I were him right now I would want a PR5 or PR6 tops, yes a PR7 makes you stand-out too much these days. It will be interesting to see how this develops, it is a really cool directory anyways and I am sure it will do well regardless of it's PR.
I think the owner will be very happy with a PR of 7. To stand out is what all of us directory owners strive to achieve. The only downside i can see is that maybe from a PR of 7 the only way to go is down in the future, but only time will tell that.
I think it offers more then most average directories with 11,000 categories and "deserves" what it has attained with the back link building and promotion that was incorporated into it. Nice work on the owners part thx malcolm
I actually agree with you that it is a nicely done directory. But every one knows how it (PR) has been achieved. My Q. was that after what happened in last 2 months, Is PR 7 safe? I personally think PR 7 is very dangerous right now and just asking for trouble.
Nahhh..... It just proves that web directories are still a very important part of the puzzle and that they where never devalued. Only certain owners where targeted and truthfully it wasn't about the "PR" but that fact that thier "algo" was breached and why they got so nasty after everyone said screw "PR" its the "serps" we want and why they went on their crusade to punish certain violators.. Just a theory... thx malcolm
I don't think its really specifically about the pr of the site. Its more about whether big G regards the site to have good linking practice. If a site has a lot of high pr sponsored links it might be a target for big G as they will see it as pr chasing. No one knows the exact criteria (big G's secret). Another theory is that big G missed this one. Many people were convinced the penalties where manually implemented.
malcolm1 -- Again I agree with you that "web directories are still a very important" and have not been devalued. But again my Q. is/was - Is PR 7 safe and that also in first update which is definitely not achieved by natural back-links. mrcrowley - I totally believe that the penality was manual as sites like Big Web Links were downgraded twice in a week 7 > 6 > 4. That's why I beleve PR 7 is just too dangerous as every one knows about you.
i dont think a pr7 is dangerous, even a pr8 is fine as long as your site is worth it, but i agree that to be safe, the owner should not advertise his directory based on his pr7. what is bad is this: congrats to haxan it was one of my favorite directories since the beginning.
Hasan would have been happy with a PR6. Attaining a 7 is a blessing I do know this as we used to talk about it while I was helping out and modding the directory. Hasan also put a lot into the directory; Money and promotion, and more than a good 99% of others do with theirs.
funkymario - Yes "worth it" is the Keyword here. If DJournal is worth it then what about Alive, Big Web Links, Go Guides, V7N, skaffe. If we talk about "worth it" no this directory is not worth PR7 atleast not right now. an0n - Yes a "blessing" in short run as owner can make tons of money but what after next PR update.
Delhi_wala i have this strange impression that i already know you , you are not a "returning" member right ? , anyway i dont agree that dirjournal is not worth pr7, its so original, sorry, and what do you know about the promotion that the owner did ? how can you assume that its not worth a pr7 ?
I never said it was not original design but lets stop there. There is nothing original after that having thousands of categories and blog is not original. I was talking about "worth it" just having some blogs do not make you "Worth It". If you look at the BL's you will see how the PR was achieved. I myself have paid links on those sites. Again, If DJournal is worth it then what about Alive, Big Web Links, Go Guides, V7N, skaffe. I never wanted to GO here as it was not my original Q. Also, I have no idea what you mean "Delhi_wala i have this strange impression that i already know you , you are not a "returning" member right ?"
i'll just let the owner of dirjournal respond to that, or atleast someone very famiar with dirjournal, i can never judge a directory without knowing in details how and how hard the owner is promoting it. but since dirjournal is not worth a pr7 for you, please tell us what "worth it" means to you? i just want to know how do you define quality.
