I was reading an article that said you'd get penalized for having excessive keyword density. In fact, it said that even 3% was too high. 2 questions: Is high keyword density bad? And what is too high?
In most cases that would be considered Keyword Spamming which is yes very bad! However, you can post your article and we could tell you if its to much
I think 3-5% is the optimum rate of keyword density. Just make sure it's natural. Include keywords in actual content. Don't just go: keyword keyword keyword... Even if visitors can't see them, SEs can, and they'll penalize you for keyword spam.
in the past, 3% content and around 7% overall worked out great for me. but you can do some research to be sure which is the optimal keyword density for your niche. find 2 (atleast) of your competitor's sites. go to http://www.keyworddensity.com put both the URLs you found for your competitors enter the keyword, and do a search. you will get the keyword density of 2 of your competitors. if they are not the same density, pick something in the middle which should be fine. I LOVE SPYING
The algorithms for Google are looking for pages that a human would actually read. Therefore, keyword stuffing is bad. 1.5% is fine. The latest thing is Latent Semantic Indexing. Simply put, the bots are looking for keywords associated with your topic. An example would be 'camping'. Associated keywords would be tents, camping equipment, camp grounds, recreational vehicles, etc. You get the idea. Best, Scott
