the TLD's doesnt matter as such, just a matter of fact, its the content on these sites that make them valueable (generally). Moreover the backlinks these sites have are from authority sites, there by passing a comprehensive amount of Trust Rank for your website, hence, Benefit. Think it this way, if TLD's would matter, everyone would tend to get those .edu links no matter what the site/pages/content on the site is all about..What value would be left over for the normal domains? Such edu and gov sites would have their monopoly in the Industry, which I guess is not feasible. easy to conclude, its not the TLD's that matter, its the site, its content, and its backlinks are what that matters the most. I would rather prefer 3-4 normal links from a good site then 5-6 edu/gov links that are full of crap data/viagra spam/link farms etc. hope that helps..
A .edu TLD will have no more value than any other TLD. What matters is the content on the page hosted on the Web page (for example, a link to your site in a university published research paper will be worth a lot more than a link to your site from a college student's personal page).
youre Right!! and those edu links.. spammer already breaks the code ( php injection ) to fillup craps just automatically..
.edu generally have more value not because google like .edu but generally .edu sites have huge content and quality backlinks
Patently false. A lot of .edu sites have tons of crappy student-generated pages with no real content. Getting a back-link from one of those pages will do nothing to increase your SERPS or PageRank in Google. Sheesh, where do you guys come up with this nonsense anyway?
Ofcourse you are right on that, But no denial of the fact, some of the edu's do have great backlinks from authority domains too, and ofcourse great content as well..and oh well like I said in general TLD's doesnt matter.. Dilemma: Such Edu's arent available for linking crap unless you hire .. a hacker
Every TLD is the same as the others in terms of it's 'weight' in search engines eyes - all is fair.. It's just a matter of popularity and usage...
Please bear in mind that "seems to" and "does" are two completely different things. Besides, Matt Cutts (I'm pretty sure it was him - and he WORKS FOR GOOGLE) even came out and said that .edu links have no extra "special value" just because of their TLD. What you're seeing is the vast number of links pointing to those pages, not the .tld itself. You could point those links at a .name TLD and it would still have the same effect.
In absolute value, a .edu link is far more valuable than a .com link. Those who managed to get some, know it.
NOT TRUE edu site backlinks will only matter if the backlink comes from REAL edu content related page. not only because of its .edu domain but more because of its authority content which is trusted and has high PR due to lot of backlinks of its own. keep in mind that most edu links are advertised these days by some opportunists selling edu back links are on student pages which is full of crap and spam. getting links from those edu pages will do more harm than any good.
I've got a bridge in Brooklyn for sale if you believe that .edu links are far more valuable than .com links. You interested? As I've said before (and will say again), just as the Sultan of SEO (nice username, by the way) said in the post directly after yours (which I am quoting for YOUR convenience), .edu links are not automatically worth more than .com links. You can put the same content on a site with a .com TLD and point the same backlinks at it and the .com will be worth just as much as the .edu. The scary thing is you can even do that with country-specific .TLDs. So, are you willing to reconsider your stance on this position and admit you're wrong? I owe you a beer.
From what I hear , genuine edu links are more valuable than .com , my univ .edu website has a page rank of 8 and the same .com has pr 2 value .
That doesn't mean the .edu site is automatically better than the .com site one single bit. What it means is that the .edu site has more links pointing at its pages (which are probably interconnected to each other as well).
Well Dan, I am willing to try an experiment over the importance of an .edu link being higher than a .com link, but it's very hard. Bear in mind, I said .edu links are higher than .com links in ABSOLUTE VALUE. This means that at the same other conditions, an .edu link is far more valuable. In order to proceed with the experiment and even get close to similar conditions, we'd need: - a website, of course, but I suppose that's not a problem; - two related websites, a .com and a .edu; - backlinks on those websites, but only with the condition that the two pages have the same number of backlinks overall. Well, this isn't everything, but they are the basic conditions. Pretty hard, not impossible though.
