    Hi,

I would like to make a little rant..

3 weeks ago, petrol dropped down a price of only 94.9.

Yesterday, prices increased from 97.9, to 98.9.

That is a 4pence (about 8cents in USD) increase in less than a month.

It is driving everyone up the wall (literally).

I have one of the most economical scooters on the road (200mpg at a constant speed of 30mph, 80mpg at 43mph, my most used speed) and i hate to admit it, but i am struggling to cope with the cost of petrol.

I know 4pence doesn't sound much, but it is an extra 12pence a day in petrol costs.

The prices are not slowing down.

Diesel prices yesterday increased from 99.9 to 100.9

That is right £1.009 for a litre of diesel, that is in American money, $2.01USD.

$2.01 for a litre of diesel.

Please enjoy your stay at the place with the most expensive fuel prices in the whole entire world, Cornwall, United Kingdom.

    ....

2 pence of that increase has gone to profit to the petrol stations, and the other 2 pence was a tax increase at the start of October.

    Be prepared for more.

Someone had posted a link to this news yesterday.

Energy Watch Group feels that crude oil production has peaked in 2006.

    http://edition.cnn.com/2007/BUSINESS/10/24/oil.decline/

Although the report is a bit over-pessimistic, the world is surely running out of petroleum fast.

With increasing demand from China, India and other emerging economies, oil prices have only one way to go in the long term - up.

Prepare to rant a lot more the coming months..
Here in Belgium (and also in the Netherlands) supermarkets haven announced that the price of basic food products may increase 30% over the next months..

Just about every store will eventually raise its prices because of increased petrol prices (as every product needs to be moved, raw materials become more expensive, ..).

So if the few pence hurts you now already, you may be hurt a lot more in a few months :(

Yep, it's pretty worrying - in the UK for every £1 of petrol you put in your tank 70p is tax. The government would argue they were trying to get people off the road, but they're making no effort whatsoever when it comes to public transport alternatives.

The government has reintroduced the fuel duty escalator which puts fuel up by an extra 3% (on top of the 17.5% Value Added Tax (VAT) already in place) every year.

Yes, you read right - road users in Britain actually get taxed on tax! All this from an allegedly socialist government

Agreed. They should ban 4x4's and everything with an engine over 3.0 litres in cities and towns during 10am-4pm. That would work well, because it is the rich which have expensive cars with oversized tanks which do 10mpg...

I don't like it when the price of oil rises. This will have a domino effect on the prices of consumer goods as well as transportation fares.

be thankful your not where I am.. in New Brunswick, Canada they passed a law that they figured would put an end to residents complaining about daily and bi daily gas price changes and now the stores are only allowed to change the price on a set date ocne every 2 weeks... I mean yes we are some what protected if they set it low and then it jumps up... but then when the next change comes they just up it even more to recouperate their losses... and some of these bi weekly changes fluctuate 10 or 20 cents on the liter.

The thing that annoys me about fuel is that there is no petrol stations which sell E85 down here in cornwall. I would be willing to pernamently alter my engine to run E85..

Erm, what's E85? I thought that was a type of moisturising cream you put on dry skin and babies bottoms?!

    E85 is 85% bio-ethanol and 15% unleaded.

It is a more environmently friendly alternative to unleaded.

It would work a lot better with small engines such as a scooter because a scooter has more power when there is higher octane.
