How do I increase the PR on directories? Ive read on the forum that Google may penalize a directory and lower its ranking, but on what grounds?

I assume you are a directory owner or looking to start one ?

Well building links from high PR sites can increase your site's PR.

About google penalties, with my limited knowledge:
Paid directories are being hit hard lately by google and their PR has dropped ... with the reason being that they sell links based on their PR ... funny huh

google does not want links sales for PR ... its ok if you sell for traffic ... because they claim you are gaming their search results

again I am not the most appropriate person to talk to you about it but you can search around in these forums and you will find lots of discussions about directories and the google penalties, you can start here and an alternative view here

This is just one view and not claimed to be correct or right.

Being new and studying everything, my view is that those that focus on PR as some sort of god will miss the boat.

I have no intentions of worrying about PR, trying to raise PR or buying PR.

it will be what it is and for that matter just another funny number of where another business wants to rate my business, and that is their choice.

My sole focus will be on unique visitors , repeat visitors and what i CTR i can give my customers to give a better return for their $

PR will not become a factor in that for my, i simply dont focus on it and it will happen naturally.

It is not dis similar to creating wealth ( in this case PR$ ) if you focus on the almighty $ you get no where.

If you focus and perfect the things that affect that $ the the $ will take care of themselves.

Put some quality content on your sites , get or buy some quality links & you will surely get a nice PR to your site. But make sure that Google is not aware that you are buying links ;)

Well, u need to do something on ur site which will attract people to link it to yours.

Something out of the ordinary, something which makes it stand out.

You could even make a funky looking banner and put it on your link to us page.

    It's all about creativity.

IMO that technique will help most.

thank you for the advice downunder...what matters is to offer quality service to your customers and eventually if the customer is satisfied he/she will come back. Just focusing on making the $buck today wont get you anywhere on the long run. I am interesting in building up and setting my web site services reputation on solid foundations (customer satisfaction, quality service, meeting deadlines, etc), and the rest will follow.
I was just wondering what ticks the PR process, but I guess it doesn't matter. What matters is to offer the best services to satisfy my potential customers.
