What web design software do you use? Do you build sites yourself?

I am curious what various softwares people here use for building websites.

I sell Dreamweaver tutorials, and maybe I naturally overestimate the amount of people that use this software?

I am curious about the users at DP - what software is used to build your site, and do you personally create and upload the pages yourself, or does someone else do it?

Or do you do a mix of outsourcing (the things you can't do) and doing for yourself the things you can.

    95% in-house
    *Dreamweaver veteran
*Phoshop to build the GUI, branding, buttons, icons, and to chop/optimize it.
    *Image ready for banner dev.
    *Flash for any animation/video
    *Illustrator for logo/vector art
    *Cubase/Sound Forge for audio
*5% outsourced for heavy back-end work

Dreamweaver has most of what you need post branding (or if you buy a template), including built in FTP so I can't imagine going back anything else and using a separate ftp just to up/download...

My siggs outline my work at its best :) (sorry 4da shameless plug). Cool post though, DW is bomb. If some of you are on Front Page or GoLive, whetever is clever it's all pretty much the same however DW has the most comprehensive all in one IMO, including all the advanced serverside/database/dynamics/etc.

Cheers to Adobe (Though I always did like the MacroMedia branding/name).

I almost exclusively use Dreamweaver for coding, i do the coding myself though. I don't use the drag and drop because that writes very poor code in my opinion.

I build websites myself and use kate (kde text editor), vim (console-based editor), gimp (for graphics). I sometimes outsource graphics and colour scheme suggestions as it's not my forté although I have friends who are willing to do the work for free when they're not busy. :)

I prefer a text editor with syntax highlighting as then I have complete control and nothing messing with my code. With regards to php code, I try to ensure what I write is easily reusable and that reduces development time. Personally, I don't believe in RADEs. As a web developer it's important to know how to code, makes it easier and quicker to solve problems (and less chance of making them).

Of course, I use some pre-existing php scripts such as Wordpress and drupal which can make life easier but of course there's always time spent on creating custom templates, modules/plugins, fixing broken code (whether core or modules/plugins), et cetera.

I've started to experiment with Kdenlive for video.

And of course, I use Firefox and Internet Explorer for testing pages in. Some webmasters forget to ensure their pages render fine in every browser. Firebug is a great firefox extension for helping to analyse a site's load speed and identify where it can be optimised.

I can only do basic xhtml/css stuff. So when I can do it myself, I use Notepad++ though I used to use Dreamweaver. Otherwise I outsource to someone else to do my work for me.

I use editplus (like notepad) for coding html, css, javascript, php
nothing fancy like DW, just a plain editor with some handy bells and wistles

I wish I knew how to use photoshop, gimp, psp better because I suck at graphic design

jordanthegreat I love the designs of your sites, are they your creations ?

I generally use notepad++ too, when I have to work on scripting. However, for css and (X)html, I rather prefer to use the web developer extension for firefox. Firefox add-ons are really conveniant..I use fireftp for uploads..

I use photoshop and then either get a programmer to code it or code the site myself by hand. No dreamweaver is involved ;)

PSPad (text editor) for html/css/java/php etc.
    Photoshop for graphics.

Tried Dreamweaver once, couldn't understand it, gave up.

I generally use Dreamweaver, Photoshop and TopStyle, plus Illustrator for logos depending on the project.

I use a combination of things..depending on what I want done.

I don't own photoshop..but own it's sister program elements..and..honestly..it's done everything I need it to do.

I do pages in Golive..but have slickedit around for perl, python and php editing.

Some people complain golive generates proprietary code. so? it's editable by me..so I could care less.

I have several computers with every imaginable browser. I even have a friend with a MAC for checking on that platform as well. I even use lynx myself..so I have provisions for lynx as well.

Dreamweaver here, but outsource most as I find it very time consuming and frustrating.

Ha...I definitely make my own sites...and sport my amateurism proudly. After I got a quote from a friend for $100 a page for a website, I decided I better step up and figure it out myself.

I use basic skills I learned in college as a Graphic Design major (didn't quite finish). I use Photoshop and Dreamweaver. Sometimes I use Fireworks. I like Coffee Cup software, but I don't have any of it anymore except the Color Schemer. I can't afford their package right now.

Most recently, I downloaded a free template and am in the process of tweaking the buttons, images, and logo to suffice for my latest project. Sometimes I think I know just enough to screw up miserably, but I'm learning more all the time.
