A new OS always tends to use up more system power than the previous, that’s a givin. I’m not complaining much cuz I’ve got plenty of power to spare. But Vista dose use more then it should, there are some things running in the background that I can do without. So until I really need DX10 I’ll stay with XP, when crisis comes out though, it’ll be a different story.
I really don't hate vista so much. Yes i have tested alot of OS. I am not a noob for them, and i will agree most people who say they hate it don't have any where of a great machine. Yes vista is best on of course it's max ram (4GB on 32bit) which is what i have. But i have both XP on a drive and Vista on a drive, and i can load xp when i need to use a program thats not supported by vista, which really for me hasn't been a a massive issuse. Not to mention if you dig around with vistas settings you can disable all the high graphic and cpu useage features and geta pretty barebones system running if your specs are lacking. Anyways on the hacking side note. I know people who very easily can get into anything from xp to vista, its not very hard i have done some fooling around with hacking my own systems. (I am doing for the legaling expirice and nothing more, i am keeping it 100% legal) If you really wnat to be safe look into enkyption software even that can be broken in time. No system is ever compleatly safe as it has been shown countless times with our own goverments servers being hacked. (all goverments have had the problem not just the USA.) - John Best advice, if your a web dev and have good specs sure go ahead and upgrade i don't regret it at all. But if your really a big techy go with linux, i personalluy use firespire on my older system to test things on, its alot like xp in teh way the graphic modes set and its very familer to use. Just screen res isn't made for as big as my montior is. Gamers inless you plan to play halo 3 (vista only game) for directx 10 stay with xp inless you have a killer machine. No real massive need to upgrade yet. A large portion of microsofts sales this year has beeen XP many people are still choicing the fimalier way over the new and "cool" way.
My laptop came with Windows Vista and I was using it during the betas and I love it...everything is so much better than XP.
actaully...vista i fast and does luk better but the prob is that not all softwares are compatible with vista...and the softwares that are cmin make the processor slow coz of different make up of vista...(as how much i can understand)...whereas for xp there is no such problem...therefor ppl complain about vista being slow...i guess
I havent tested Vista, so nothing much i could tell about it here.. but i think XP is so powerful and why do we need Vista?
I will always love XP. I used Vista at the store the other day and it was just too "gimmicky" for me. If I wanted all the flashy junk (which is apparently what you are paying for, turn it off, you may as well go XP) I would go with Mac. But I hate all that junk. I just need an OS to do business.. not watch my windows animate.
£400.00 hmm I think you been ripped off, mine was only £104. And having an OS on my machine is something usefull, erm , it won't work without one! Why on earth when building a new kick ass 64bit machine I'd go stick XP on it? XP 64bit has had nothing but problems, Vista x64 is running like a dream. I got a 64bit OS with a 64bit CPU and a 64bit SCSI HD, I don't see where I could better spend the money? and seings as XP would still cost @ £50.00 , to get Vista it actually only cost me £50.00 , hardly a princely sum , now is it!
That's, I think, the retail price. What you get with a new machine will, of course An OS is something useful, downgrading to a new OS from a perfectly good old OS isn't. I don't know what kind of dreams your having, but I normally call them nightmares. Perhaps buying yourself something you want and going with XP or linux. Either one works better than Vista. I must have missed that in my skim-reading, it certainly wasn't a large or particularly focused on part of report. I saw nothing stating that there were any major issues with any of their Latitude laptops.
I don't keep records on companies products but I'll look around the internet and find an article that explains my point.
from a gamers point of view, XP consumes far less RAM. everyone knows it vista is a ram hog! but if your not a gamer go ahead, get vista!
I'm with Windows XP until a service pack comes out for Vista. Vista is very unstable and it's not from what I heard; in other words I installed it and gave it a try. Of course this is just my opinion. Kind Regards.
