So I just got an email asking if I want to add my web design site as a featured listing to this directory: http://www.bodymodified.com ... so a click through the procedure, country, region et cetera and discover that my link, if I was foolish enough to pay, would set me back a whopping $500 for 3 months or $1675 for 12 months! Even the Yellow Pages don't charge that much, and this site was only registered a month ago. I wonder how many payers they get from this - maybe I should start a new directory and charge a fortune from day 1?
Wow. Thats amazing....$1675 a year? You could submit to 30 quality paid directories including yahoo for that much.
Come on guys this is a joke. After all directories are in the middle of a crisis - in my opinion. Someone should be very picky when submitting. Should even think twice before paying even 1/10 of that amount for a permanent listing. Especially when he can get a blog post at the same money, at a high traffic, daily crawled blog. PS: I used to own a directory network before. I have made business with many directory owners in here. I got out of the market right after I realized the risk on this kind of business. I don't mean to devalue any directory or its owner. Maybe I am wrong, but I think directories will never be the same again...
@Astroman Thats called someone trying to take advantage of a unsuspecting business webmasters, and anyone trying to get more visabuility on the web or we dont want links right now Thank you for sharing your info with us for others to see that its aware... As always folks ... Buyer Beware regards M1
WEll, the web design directory he got is kind of empty. Paying the price I don't think is an issue, if you could get some targeted traffic in return.
There is no crisis or risk in the directory business. It’s business as usual for us except we suddenly got very busy. LOL The crisis and risk is in the link sales business. A correctly managed directory will not purchase or sell page rank.
After reading all this scary announcement about google baning directories and paid links I was still foolish enough to start a directory. Havent got any idea how much can PR2 directory charge for a featured listing I set it up at $18. Now I see that I was too modest....
I seriously doubt anyone is falling for that, but it is a way to say we are not accepting links. The price should always be stated upfront on the submit page anyway. That would be a clear sign to me all alone.
$50 is enough for dmoz! LOL yes, this is what i thought as well! or may be they are after the stupid link bait, that i guess they already got!
The most easiest is just ignore the email as spam & use the delete button. You can use that money in some really good link building.
