I have a regular directory http://www.caretotry.com. I was wondering if starting a bid directory is good. I have only received 1 premium site on my directory and I have over 500 sites in my directory. I have seen bidding directories that are quite successful. What are your opinions and how long does it take to usually get someone to make a bid.
They can be successful if you have the time and energy to spend on them, they are great for traffic purpose, they can drive lots of traffic to your web site. I wouldn't be surprised if you got a bid within the first two weeks (depending on the min. bid amount) - however, as said, it takes both time and money. Regards, Meti
Here's an idea for you. Start both, a conventional directory & bidding directory. This way you have the best of both worlds.
Well I just converted my free/premium directory with over 1k sites and now its a bidding directory. The lowest bid is $1 and increments at $1 or more if you choose.
That could help you obtain some extra traffic; as the web site was already established, however I wouldn't recommend, I'd recommend starting a brand new one. Regards, Meti
What should the minimum bid be? Wouldn't it be easier for a lot of people if its $1? How much does paypal take out of just $1?
Exactly my thoughts. He would be much better off changing it to 3$ as it was already a established web directory. Regards, Meti
king, that wasnt a wise move. People spent time and money submitting to your old directory, you just wiped it out to make more money. Just because some bid directories have bids of over $1000 on them, doesnt mean yours will. If your last directory was getting no submissions, surely that must be telling you something. Switching to the bid model wont help at all. You'll probably make $100 or so from the SEO company behind the casino network that submit everywhere, other than that you wont make anything. Bid directories only make $7500+ becuase they have high traffic and lots of backlinks. If your old site had this, it would have got some paid submissions. I really think you should consider switching back to your old directory. Try give it some proper thought next time, make a business plan, budget your expenses. Or will you not spend any money and just hope you get bids?
Have to agree with Mike, if you have the possibility restore your old web directory and start a bidding directory on a new domain. Regards, Meti
Ahh crap! I accidently deleted it!!! Nooo, I can't believe it, I selected a few files to delete in my ftp and I dragged a little to far and didn't see it and I hit delete.
No I deleted it. Im mad and sad. I don't have money right now. My bank doesnt work with paypal and I don't have a debit card that I need to buy a domain name. All well this sucks.
Your bank doesnt work with Paypal? thats bull all major credit card companies work with PP, that means if you have a bank checking account you have a debit card, and your debit card is porlly a VISA which paypal, godaddy, etc... other major domain registrars accept.
