I've found a semi-long tail phrase that's 3 words long, that has 111,000,000 results on Google. The top sites that appear for it only vaguely have to do with it. I found out that this 3-word phrase's .com was available, so I bought it. How far do you think such a thing could technically go if I work at it, in terms of SERP? My thoughts are this: -regularly searched-for phrase (Google Keyword Tool confirmed this) -the .com name is the actual keyword itself -no current sites on SERP page #1 (or any other page) are using this exact phrase
I think this will greatly help you. Domain name as keywords is one of the highly values thing SE look at. Put a site together for the domain, put decent content in it. I am sure you will get on top 3 at least in short time.
Just because you've secured a domain name that contains keywords for that particular search phrase doesn't guarantee you will see results. There are many other factors taken into consideration which you need to think about. Inbound links? Page attributes? Keyword use? Well done on securing that domain name but now the real hard work starts - Matt
listen the domain name isn't that important anymore... at least NOT for the reasons I think that you think they are for... what's important in SEO is the anchor text, when people link back to you. if they use that keyword in their anchor text that is good, if not ... well no good. this is the ONLY reason why it's important... like Matt said... the offpage factors such as inbound links, anchor text, are MUCH MUCH more important in ranking highly for a search term... plus, you must have good content on your site... and NOT just keywords stuffed crap... but search engines are looking at TOPICAL content now... which means that the content has to be based around a certain theme, if you're talking about dogs, they 're gonna be looking if you have content for dog food, dog training, dog breeding, dog schools.
Domain names are extremely important. If its hard to remember your type in traffic suffers. Keywords in the domain help A TON! I have put up pages with just the keyword in <h1> tags and in the domain and nothing else, and they rank top 20 within a few days. Granted they will drop after a while if links and content aren't built, but they will rank better with the keyword in the domain.
