Google PageRank and Ranking Penalties Being Dished Out Like Crazy

Discussion in 'Google' started by Dave E, Oct 24, 2007.

In the last few hours Google has dished out literally hundreds more PageRank and ranking penalties. Many high profile blogs have been dropped from PageRank 6's and 7's to 4's including:

    www.seroundtable.com
    www.searchenginejournal.com
    www.searchengineguide.com
    www.problogger.net
    www.copyblogger.com

To name a few, these bloggers are lucky because Google could not get away with changing their rankings in the slightest because it would damage their search result quality, less important blogs have been dropped 40 or 50 places in the rankings for their own names. Also just about every directory that has been buying links has been hit with a PageRank penalty.

Looks like Google is fine-tweaking their 'anti-paid-links' (apl) algo.

with millions of site owners cultivating link farming even by mass mail and automated systems - that penalty was to be expected since more than a year ago already and was/is but a matter of time until G has developed a precise procedure to hit the right ones without penalizing honest sites
PR's original intention was to measure generic true popularity ....
by real surfers / users / members of a site who recomed that site in a one way link as a matter of gratitude or or recommendation to friends of a truly valuable www resource.

If directories had to be penalised then these blogs were surely in the firing line too

Well, I just checked the page rank of http://www.searchenginejournal.com/ and it is still showing as a PR 6 on all DCs...

How did these penalties come to your attention (to the OP) please?
and how are you seeing PR updated so fast?

Its called trying to use a 'big stick' it happens in the real world and its all about increasing revenue streams for the protaganists

After all you limit sites and the sites have to look to new ways of developing

    Its no big deal ;)

I have just had a look as well. My toolbar ( though most likely extremely outdated ) says PR 4.

SEOLogs is showing me that the site has a valid PR7 !!!
SEOLogs DC check shows me a variety of either PR4 or PR6 !!!

    CONTENT IS KING ;)

Cliche I know but people forget about content. I have sites with hundreds of visitors a day without any seo or link building. All search engine traffic because of good, unique content that does not get old ;)

But it is bad if you sell a lot of links :(

Some sites do not sell any links and have good content.

    Still had Page Rank penalties.

    What penalty

If sites had PR then they had links right ?

People still don't know what PR really is ....

But that is not what I was talking about. None of my sites are penalized in any way at the moment. Some are PR6, PR5....all good content. On lots of them I even did directory submissions like crazy.

Those sites that are brought down have either bought links to boost PR, did something wrong or have less quality content than those sites above them ... simple huh.

Make new content every day, new website, new ideas and you will not have to worry about what google is up to ....
